Honors Program

I have not been looking at U of M until recently, and i was wondering if any of you knew about the honors program? What benefits do you get from being accepted into it? HOw many apply? HOw many get in? How do you apply/ is it just random? Anything else i didnt think of would help too... thanks in advance!

bump----------------

Look back, like, 2 pages. There've already been about 4 threads on this.

I read all of the threads, and none really answer all of the questions i have posed, only discussed the benefit of doing it. Is anybody here actually in the honors program, and could possibly give their HS stats, or give an idea about how hard it is to get in?

i knew nothing about honors until i got admitted and the office sent me an invitation to join the honors program. this year there's about 450 honors students, 10 of them internationals. ratio this over the number of enrolled incoming should give you an idea of how hard it is. i heard you can also apply to be admitted into honors too, but im not too sure about htat.

what's approx percent male/female ratio in honors? :)

i'd say 46.22%-53.78% favoring male, but im a pretty random person.

Close enough to 50-50 that you won't notice. I think about 10-15% of freshmen do Honors college. I don't think it's terribly difficult to get in. At least when I was going through application stuff, if you sent everything in early enough you could be invited, but otherwise you had to send them and e-mail to be considered, and I think now there's an optional essay.

What if you transfer from engineering to LSA after your first semester or during sophomore year, can you still get in the honors program?

Yeah as far as the invitation goes, I got this letter talking about it a few weeks after I got in (Nov 7th). Then I sent in the essay in December sometime, and when I did, I got a reply that said that they would start reading the applications in January, which says nothing as far as when people get in.

How does the Squad housing work with honors? Is it lottery or if you get in are you automatically guaranteed Squad?

Usually if you send in your housing stuff early enough, you're nearly guaranteed Squad, but then again, there's always that chance that too many people want honors housing, and space is very limited.

Well, I wanna find out about some other schools I applied to and I won't until April 1st, so there is that one month delay.

That's not too late. As long as you get working on that stuff right after you send in your enrollment deposit, you should be okay.

Anyone hear anything from honors?

yeah! I got into honors yesterday! Woot!

How did you get the information? I don't think I'm gonna get it, because I submitted it awhile back and I haven't heard anything yet.

By regular mail...The address was from the LSA Honors program so you would know if you got it or not.

This is kind of what it says:

Dear ______,

Congratulations! It is our great pleasure to offer you a place in the Honors Program in the University of Michigan's College of Literature, Science, and Arts for the fall of 2007. After reviewing your file, we think you are well suited to Honors' challenging academic program and vigorou sintellectual community. The LSA Honors program is all about providing opportunities for talented and interesting people to pursue ideas and understanding together. This letter is your invitation to Honors--we very much hope you will join us.

Blah Blah Blah...I think I've typed enough...

Funny thing is, I only got a 29 on my ACT.

Anyway, hope you all get it!

Damn it. Looks like I better write that essay.

I bet I didn't get it yet because of my essay. They said that they weren't scared of opposing viewpoints, but I guess not.

BTW, I got a 32 and w/ 6 AP classes total and 2 dually enrolled classes my Umich gpa comes around 3.9. So I doubt that "stats" matter much here.

Hmm.. yeah, I got a 32, seven dual enrollment classes and one AP. I haven't sent the essay yet, I haven't started it. Ick.
