When will decisions to the honors program be mailed? Are they mailed before regular decision acceptances, or do we have to wait?

Last year they came with the acceptance letter. You could always call admissions and ask.

Or check out the new admissions website at admissions.udel.edu and go to the uwired section. Delaware is one of the first schools to have an instant chat feature with admissions officers.

cockatiel--they're out! big envelope thing...very pretty cover. wow, i sound sophisticated here...hahaha...good luck; hope you're in!

Yes. Dd is in and even invited to the scholarhsip competition!!!

Is there a way to check on-line? No mail delivery today!

zel17... when did you get the big envelope? I'm in NY too....just curious.

ummm...thursday, i think...yeah, b/c i told my counselor the next day...but anyway, they might be going in order that you applied--i finished all my apps in late october...idk. i'm sure you'll hear soon.

Ok, the decisions that are being mailed now are for the scholarship competition only. Everyone else will get decisions in March.

is it possible for someone to be invited to this scholarship competition that didn't apply to the honors program? does udel give out merit money besides this particular competition? how about to out of state non-honor students? Good luck to all of you!

Oh thanks for the info. I haven't gotten it yet so maybe it is just the scholarship competition. I feel like I should get into honors, but maybe not at that upper end of it for that extra fun stuff. :)

Yes, UD does give out merit money besides this competition. The competition is for full tuition / full tuition, room + board scholarships. Also, I know of people who recieved scholarship money who are out of state traditional students. Do not feel bad if you did not get invited to the competition. UD only invites the top 100 applicants. Considering we have more than 20,000 applicants from out of state alone this year, that is a very small number.

Can anyone give me some details about the UD Honors program? My daughter was just accepted into their Honors Program (with $7K in merit :).
How does it compare to U Maryland's University Honors program?
Some tough but nice choices to make as to other schools too, but they are way pricier. She's lucky in the acceptance dept. - worked very hard though.
Thanks.

it's a good balance between community and academic...honors students live with some traditional (PC for non-honors) students in the good dorms on campus (close to food and academic stuff)...classes are a bit more of a challenge but not too many are required, and they have much smaller class size. there are some cool colloquia (one about chocolate!) that honors kids can take...so the kids aren't isolated, but they do get extra educational opportunities...

i believe they also get priority registration for classes, but i could be mistaken on that one...

comparing UD in general (b/c i'm not super-familiar with MD's honors prog) UD is mostly private, believe it or not...so student funding/expansion is not dependent on state budget; rather, it is based off a sizeable endowment (thanks to Dupont!), so improvements and aid are fairly steady...a huge advantage over most publics, and considering the (excellent) reputation of the university, easily comparable to privates.

good luck in your decision!

I'm a freshman honors student. I've taken 4 honors classes so far. The workload is slightly heavier, and much more in depth. I do love that the class sizes are MUCH smaller. I have one class with 9 students in it and the professor took us all out to lunch the other day. They have a wide variety of colloquia...I took one on tragedies last fall. I know they offered some on globalization, hip hop, medieval times, poetry...so definitely a variety. We only get priority registration for honors courses. Only after honors kids have had enough time to sign up for them do they open up to traditional students, and then they have to get permission from the honors department. For regular classes it's still determined by your year.
