I just applied to colorado as a biology major. does anyone have any information about the honors program? of the students they accept, what are their gpas/test scores/class rank? how are the honors classes? any information is helpful!

D is at CU, in the non-residential honors program. They take top 10%, based on some unclear formula of test scores and gpa; she actually had to petition her way in because her school does not report weighted grades. She had a 3.5 uw (something like 3.9 w), 1440 SAT. Any student can join if they have a 3.2 average at CU.

The program is a mixed bag. Its not really cohesive; it mainly provides opportunities for students to self-segregate into smaller, more academically skilled groups. Classes are a diverse selection that range from sections attached to big lecture courses to esoteric seminars (e.g. Philosophy and Science Fiction). The director is very enthusiastic and D did get some helpful advising from program staff (once she got past a nasty sec'y). At a big place like CU, more information is better.

The residential program may be very different.
