honors program

has any acceptees received anything about an honors program?

I believe you need to be at the top of the admit pool to be offered a place in the Honors Program. A average, 1400+ SAT I.

I had a lot higher stats than that, and I didn't hear anything about an honors program.

Same here, jangel.

In their book it said the honors program was founded in 1955 at Rose Hill and provided students of exceptional academic talent with the opportunity to pursue their core studies in greater depth. It replaces the regular core except for language in the freshman/sophmore years. AP courses are given credit. It also said that it begins in the beginning of the freshman year and a small number start later in the year. The enrollment is limited to about 25 students a year with seminars of no more than 14 students. You have to keep a 3.5 average. Sounds nice, but rigorous.

I got a letter yesterday inviting me to join the honors program. It sounds pretty rewarding, albeit it rigorous (as Debruns said).

Hi, Did your letter say that the courses were very limited? A senior wrote me that they pre-select courses and you have to pick from a few selections minus the language. Some students found it great, some isolating. They try to have you socialize with each other when you can to help with the extra work, etc. and they do outings together during the year. When my son read the email he wondered if it was hard to socialize as a freshman, being with such a small group all the time, but I told him academically, it would be a great opportunity. He's from a small school where everyone knows everyone, etc. and I think he wanted a change. You do learn more with less distractions though. If he is lucky enough to be accepted early next Fall and they offer him it, we will see then. I hope whatever you do, you have fun.

I received an email today inviting me to the Honors Program. I have yet to check my mail so I don't know if I've gotten the actual letter yet, but it does sound like a good program. Is anyone seriously considering attending FU?

I am probably going to attend FULC, Rovee. I'll make my final decision after visiting it April 21-23.

Really? That's awesome sarahina_cup! If you don't mind me asking, what made you decide that you will probably attend FULC?

I was accepted to FU Rose Hill EA, but I honestly don't know whether or not I will be attending this fall. I'm supposed to make a trip out to Boston and, hopefully, NYC, from the 20th to the 22nd so hopefully I'll be able to visit Fordham.

Good luck with your visit and your decision!

Rovee, I am enrolling at Rose Hill next year... what other schools are you looking at?

I am about 95% sure I will be attending the CBA at Rose Hill...had a high 90's GPA, 1430 SAT, National Merit Finalist(which got me the scholarship that basically makes it financially possible for me to attend Fordham :-D) and I haven't heard a word about the Honors Program. I just visited yesterday and absolutely loved it, I still have one more school to see but at this point I'm pretty sure Fordham is the place for me.

cupofjoeplease21...

Hey, I just posted on the other thread w/ some info about myself, but anyways, I'm also looking at Wellesley College and Boston College. Apparantly, Wellesley would be cheaper for me than my state school, but ironically, I would have to pay 30,000+ at Boston College. Fordham falls in between the two, regarding cost, but I don't think I'll get a chance to visit, which kind of sucks.

dpm765, I'm also in at the CBA at Rose Hill, congrats! What do you like about FU, and why are you most likely going to attend? This goes out to everyone actually. :-)

I really just am amazed by the campus. It's the perfect size with plenty of open green space, looks great, and just has an overall feel better than my other main choice for school, Boston University. Both of these schools are right in the middle of two of the best cities in the country, but that Fordham has a true campus makes it stand out to me. I can see myself having an absolute blast for 4 years being in NYC but also having a normal college campus experience.

The campus/location was very important in my decision, and the internship program was another big plus. The business school seems to be pretty well respected and has some interesting programs like GLOBE that I am excited for. Being in NYC gives you so many internship opportunities, which could lead to jobs later down the road, and at the admitted students event yesterday the presentation on the office of internships/career development really impressed me.

I guess it just comes down to the fact that I liked the feel of the place, I think I would have fun there, and after my times in college I would have a good job and career to look forward to. And the scholarship doesn't hurt either- Fordham will cost me about $15 grand less per year than BU, the BU b-school was very impressive but not worth that much more over Fordham.

yeah im a little surprised to not have been considered for the honors program. i got quite a bit of scholarship money and my sats are 2240 with a 4.2 gpa. maybe thats too low for it i dont know i just know its quite higher than their listed average. i felt like i was pretty above the curb is there any way i can get into the honors program later on or something? i wouldnt even mind joining after the outset

I am not going to Fordham, but I was a National Merit Finalist with even higher stats than you but I did not get honors or much of a scholarship either. Not sure what they are looking for, but they didn’t want me!
