<p>uhh, from what I hear, it's purely based on gpa. the essay is a formality. In fact, i applied for honors winter of my second year, and i didn't even have to write an essay</p>

<p>For freshmen, there are two options. You need both a weighted GPA of at least 4.1 and an SAT score of at least 2080/ACT score of at least 31. The other option is to be in the top 3% of your class.</p>
<p>^^^I realize you need those qualifications, but is everyone who writes a half-decent essay admitted? The factors you mentioned are only part of the qualification; the essay is the second part...</p>

<p>this is correct. just suck it up and do it... you'll regret it if you don't apply just because there's an essay! (it's only 500 words...)</p>
