This is just speculation, but invites could still be on their way. In an admissions blog comment, Julie wrote:

"I'm sorry you all are feeling suspense about the Honors Program. I believe that they have a group of current Honors students making congratulatory phone calls in the evenings (my understanding is that this will continue for the next week or so). However, all first-deadline Honors invitees should have receive their invitations by snail mail by now (they were mailed last week). The phone calls are just a follow-up, as a way for the invitees to talk to a current Honors student about the program."

Yesterday I received the congratulatory phone call mentioned above, but I haven't gotten the letter yet.

One thing many people don't know is that you can request a honors program roommate on your housing sheet if you get into the honors program. This can helps the odds a bit with roommate roulette. They usually honor the request and it often leads to a nicer dorm There's no guarantee with the dorm but I have seen it work that way in the past on numerous occasions. If you are our OOS you can also request an OOS roommate if you so desire and they often try hard to meet that request.

Just a few things I've observed over the last five years.

There was no rhyme or reason to the calls we made. I think they were divided into geographic region. I had a weird mix of California, New York and Western NC students in my stack of numbers.

it's weird...I haven't gotten my letter yet...but honors student called me on Thursday to congratulate me on my acceptance into the honors program...so I'm guessing that I got in and the letter is just MIA

The same thing happened to me, dbhat1. My best bet is that snail mail is just slow :) The paranoid part of me was worried that they made a mistake when they called my house, but the message had my name in it, so I'm telling the paranoid part to shut up :P

"Unlike Honors programs at some other universities, there is no particular combination of class rank and test scores that automatically qualifies a student for Honors admission. Carolina is one of the most selective public universities in the country, with more than 18,000 applications each year for only 3500 places in the first-year class and an applicant pool that seems to get stronger every year. We choose the students from that pool whom we believe to be most ready to tackle Honors courses as soon as they set foot on campus.

Students who are not invited to join the Honors Program prior to their arrival at the university will still have other opportunities to do so"

Next: What exactly are the benefits of being in the UNC Honors Program? The selectivity of the program is intriguing, but the actual perks provided to Honors students listed on the website were unclear, other than the whole "choose your roommate" thing. Any current Honors students or people in the know care to weigh in?

as far as i know, it isn't as much as most honors colleges i know of. the benefits include honors courses (of course), better study abroad options, and more research opportunities, I think.

To be straight up honest - honors doesn't do much once you're here. Yes you get first dibs on honors classes which is nice, but mostly it just opens more opportunity - study abroad, fellowships, all that. I'm in honors now - I'll probably stay in until it's no longer convenient to do so.

omg.. I just got into honors
i completely did not expect this bc im not good @ sat's n I only got a 1960
but I guess they looked at my other academic qualifications!!!

I got a call earlier this week, but i didn't know it was for Honors.
Do Honors students usually get merit money??
woo hoo, I am shocked!!!!
