Honors Program???

So I got into UF! :) But when do we find out if we are invited to apply for the honors program? I want to live in Hume really bad!

I'm not sure, but I think that it will come with our acceptance letter in the mail.

Do you happen to know much about Hume? (Is it a good dorm?)

Hume definitely is the newest and thus nicest dorm on campus, two students per room, two rooms share a private bathroom.

Welcome to the UF Department of Housing & Residence Education has comparisons of the different dorms available on UF campus.

In my view, living in Hume is the only reason to do the Honors program. It does not affect graduating with Honors (those requirements vary by major and college) which are based on GPA and whether you write a thesis.

The only real benefit beside living in Hume is that you are awarded an Associates degree after 2 years if you complete the Honors program. But I would assume that nearly everyone who attends UF is planning on getting a Bachelors, rendering the Associates pretty much moot.

yes, the invitation comes in with the acceptance letter, i hear that some honor students still choose other dorms so it is based on how you feel when you tour it.

How would I get a tour of Hume? Is it worth the extra $1000 or so?

Do all people who meet the test score criteria receive an invitation?

"rendering the Associates pretty much moot."

bachelor degrees, are heading in that same direction depending on what your major is.
Go and get that doctorate!

yes, everyone who meet all the requirements, 4.0gpa plus the scores should receive an invitation.

University of Florida Honors Program - Afternoon With Honors

My son who has "honors" stats was accepted for summer B. Does this make the honors invite less likely?

according to > University of Florida Honors Program: About Us < this link they do not say if honor students are admitted for the fall, summer, spring. Admissions make that decision, but the Directors over honors make the final decision when you accept the invitation in the mail. So my guess is no. Do you believe his UF gpa is a 4.0 and math and reading score is a 1400? Is so, they said contact them, you can find it on the provided link.

Thanks, Keezy, for the link. :)

no problem.

The University of Florida has a nationally-recognized honors program. After gaining acceptance to the University of Florida, students must apply separately to the Honors Program and demonstrate significant academic achievement to be accepted. There are over 100 courses offered exclusively to students in this program.

Entering freshman in the program must have a weighted GPA of at least 4.0 and an SAT score of 2070 out of 2400 or an ACT score of 33. The Honors Program also offers housing for freshman in the Honors Residential College at Hume Hall. The Honors Program also offers special scholarships, internships, research, study abroad opportunities.

Summer B son has the stats. There are kids who have the stats for Honors who aren't accepted to UF at all. Guess we'll wait to see if an invitation is forthcoming, and if not, if we can request an invitation.
The honors housing and extra support with advising and registration are very important to us.

"There are kids who have the stats for Honors who aren't accepted to UF at all."

I know, isn't that insane? They can get into a Top-25 Private, but not UF....

Folks need to notice the difference for honors this year. Used to be SAT cr/ma of 1400 gave you consideration, now you have to combine the writing into the mix just as SSobick said above (2070/2400). This kicked my daughter out with her SAT because although she has a 1440/1600, which would have been 40 pts over, ... with the writing component, she misses by 30 pts. now. Thank goodness for the ACT; she'll make it with her 35. Mom2three, perhaps you could email the honors folks with your question. Surely, they'd still want him.
