I got an invite to the program, and I've started my application but I'm a little nervous. Acceptance to Honors would have a lot of weight on whether I decide to attend or not. Does an invite mean you've got a good shot? How many kids do they invite? Is it really difficult to get in?

My resume is good and well-rounded, I made the mark exactly with a 2070 SAT, and I attend a large public where you can inflate your GPA like crazy. Do I have a good shot?

Feel free to talk about the Honors program, so this isn't a 'chance me' thing. I actually have a couple questions if there are any students who are in it.

I’m in the same boat kinda. The idea I have so far is that you go to the nicer dorm but its a lot more quiet or, in other words, more boring. What I am not sure is that difference in classes. For example, would I be able to take the same classes as someone in the Honors College and live in the regular dorm?

Okay, we’re not in it, but we’ve talked to friends, etc. who have been in it. Yes, ^^^ you don’t have to live in Hume to be in the honors program. In fact, my d will be living off-campus. Essentially, if we get in (should hear April 10th, I think) … we’ll give it a shot the first semester. We’ll see if the advising we’re supposed to get through the program makes it worth it, take a class (or two) in it … and then, go from there. One of my d’s friends (current jr.) took 5 semesters to complete the required four classes as she couldn’t get things completed in 4 semesters. So, even within the program … scheduling’s a problem it sounds like. She must feel it’s worthwhile in that her sister (one of my d’s future roommates) will also be joining it.

Alright so the deadline is today, and it seems as though the only difference is the option to live in Hume and a few classes that the regular student body does not get access to.

Can I apply for the Honors College today to leave the option open? Because at this point I am undecided…

Haha… I went to submit my application today at 5:30. The whole UF app was entirely electronic, and this one was online, so i assumed it to be entirely electronic, too. after putting in my final edit of the essay, I clicked continue (submit basically) and found out that we had to mail some crap in. Never heard about any mail before that page, and 5:30 is 30 minutes after the last postmark USPS will do for the day.
i emailed them… but i doubt it’ll do much good. oh well

Yeah, I almost fell into the same boat. Luckily I was doing it yesterday morning. When I found out I ran to the bank made a money order and mailed the stuff in at 2.

I’m not too sure about this, but my hs counselor told me that the Honors app is pretty much a formality… once they invite you you’re pretty much in.

haha the truth is we have no idea how many people actually get accepted (at least I think so). from what i’ve heard though, the application really is just a formality (like pcafferty said) and if you get the SAT/ACT and GPA your basically in. I was kinda upset when I found out I had to pay $40 more… I had emailed the program head though and he let me send in the app late (because it never said anything before about sending anything by mail)

From honors visitation day:
~1900 met sat/gpa requirements:
~1300 submitted application on time.
~looking for an incoming honors class of 800-900

Not all of the 1300 students will actually be attending UF. One of my friends sent in the honors application since he was waiting for other schools, but since he’s been accepted to those schools, he won’t be attending UF.
