With really no way of paying the bills of Emerson, I desperately needed the half tuition offered through the honors program. My stats were much higher than the average Emerson stats, and my essay truly did rock. Best thing I have ever written.

And yet, I found out a few days ago I was not 1 of the 50 accepted to the program. Was anyone accepted or rejected? How do you guys feel? What other steps are you taking to get money? What in the world were they basing the acceptances off of?

So very unfortunate that my 'dream' college acceptance letter will have to be ignored, since I can't afford it. Don't you hate money?

I was accepted into the Emerson honors program. I wasn’t aware that it was that selective…

anyway, for me the half tuition makes it a more lucurative school. I know that if i didn’t get into the honors program that Emerson’s FA isn’t the greatest and I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to afford it. I have gotten into academically stronger schools, and Suffolk is offering me a full boat, but the fact that I would be in Emerson’s honors program and only paying 12 grand bumps it up significantly on my list.

congrats stacy. i am COMPLETELY jealous of you haha! but congrats nonetheless.
You got a nice chunk of financial aid also, so thats awesome.
What are your stats? (I am just trying to see how incredibly dumb I must be compared to you since you got in! you are sooo lucky :] and skilled of course! )

Two of my friends and I applied and we all got into the school but I was the only one to the honors program. My one friend really needed it to go, but the a couple days later she got this letter from them saying she had been given a Dean’s scholarship for like $14,000 a year or something. So maybe you should stay on the look out.

I didn’t think I was that strong a writer but I wrote a really heartfelt essay for the prompt about a friend of mine and then my graded paper wasn’t even four pages. I guess it might have to do with how much financial aid your family would need. I know that I qualify for a lot just because of my family situation so that might have been part of it. And my friend who needed it to go had an EFC of a hundred percent but just couldn’t afford it so maybe it has to do with the FAFSA and if they are going to end up giving you so much aid anyway and you qualify for the program then it becomes an easier decision for them.

Is there any way to get into the Honors Program once you’re in the school? Like for sophomore year if you do really well your freshman year?? When I applied to Emerson I wasn’t interested enough in the school to write the essay for the honors program, but now I’m thinking more and more about going here and I wish I had tried for the honors program! My GPA, SATs, etc. look pretty similar to the ones here of people that were accepted.

can someone give me some consolation? haa im just completely and utterly devastated still. I have no idea why I wasn’t accepted if my stats and essays were significantly higher than many of those who were accepted to the program (not refering to anyone on this thread; I have talked to other people)
I was just depending on this for over a year…and within like 3 mins, it all came crashing down. Advice anyone?

I’d write to the admissions office about financial aid and explain our situation. Just be like I’m qualified and the only way I can attend is if I’m excepted into this program. Kind of like the way people get more money from school’s and use it as a bargaining chip. It might work.

and Bostonian, I don’t think there is a way to get in after your already in the school because you have to take all these Freshman seminars and stuff like that.

Just to clarify…you can reapply for Sophomore year on at the end of your freshman year, because though there are 50 spots in the program, the 50 accepted students don’t all attend, and Emerson doesn’t fill the vacant spots until the next year.
