Hey so on the tab section in the BU Applicant Link page, does everyone have a Dean’s Welcome tab? When I opened mine I only read the first sentence then closed it (haha, I was in a hurry), but then I went back to read the whole thing and he said that I was invited to be a part of the Honors Program which is offered to the top 10% or something…? Anyway, so when I read that, I thought that I had to qualify for a scholarship, but I didn’t get one. I don’t qualify for financial aid, but my parents will not pay the full amount. Did anyone get into the Honors Program with a scholarship? Or did anyone not get in and get one? Thanks

I got the Honors Program with the University Scholarship.

I got the honors program with a half-tuition scholarship.
URM, national hispanic scholar was why I got the scholarship.
For fu…cks sake i need more money…lol

star_s, what were your academic stats like? And did you qualify for any financial aid?

Where were you guys notified of your scholarshp awards?

I also got into the Honors Program. Can anyone who’s currently enrolled in the Boston University Honors Program touch on how the program is? I’ve done some research, but I could mostly only find that they make their own newsletter, have their own dorms, have the “finest professors,” and a specialized course load. Not to hijack a thread, but I feel like this will help the others in this thread also. How is the Honors Program? Is it totally worth it?

I got a deans welcome, but no honors program

I got into the honors program with University Scholarship also…I didn’t apply for financial aid…

My D was accepted into BU Honors Program with the University Scholarship (1/2 tuition).

I’m in the Honors Program, and to be honest I’m not a huge fan. The program is designed so that you take honors courses for your general education requirements. You have to take 4 honors classes to complete the program (usually 1 a semester for your first 2 years). I didn’t like it because I had a lot of AP credit and only needed to take 2 classes to finish my general education stuff. So to complete the program I would have had to take extra classes, probably in things I wasn’t interested in. I’m a Political Science major, but my honors classes were in Computer Science and Sociobiology…aka probably 2 of the most difficult classes I took here. They were both interesting, though. If you don’t have as much ap credit or your major happens to offer a lot of honors classes, the program may work very well for you.

What I did really like about the program is that your discussion section is taught by your actual professor. So most honors classes meet with the regular students for lecture and then have discussion with the prof instead of a teaching fellow. So it’s a really good way to get to know a professor during your freshmen and sophomore years when classes are generally bigger.

The honors program is also nice because it sponsors a lot of trips and programs around Boston that the program will pay for. These include trips to museums, plays, the symphony, etc etc.

Ah thanks BUBailey. That helps a lot! Do you think that you… sort of don’t get the full experience in the Honor College especially if you take HC dorms and stuff? Do you not meet non-HCers?

Oh, no worries. You’ll definitely meet other students. For one thing, only one of your classes a semester will be honors, and even then you’ll still have your lecture with non-honors students. Even if you live in an honors dorm, you’re bound to meet other students through extracurriculars, classes, friends of friends, etc.

^^
hey guys where did you see that you’ve received the university scholarship? In the dean welcome letter itself or in another tab?

I’m wondering the same thing as schoolgirl, if anyone can help. :)

it’s on the merit scholarship tab.
