Can anyone tell me about the honors program at GW? I'm just wondering what exactly the honors program gives you and if it is so much work that it takes away your social life. Is it worth it? Thanks.

I know a guy named Idias or something on this board used to post who is in the GW honors program. I'll try to get in touch with him for you.

If you designate that you want to apply to the Honors Program on the application and are accepted, do you have to attend?

I am unsure whether I would like to be in the program, but would like to apply and make a decision later.

What if you apply for honors but are not of the proper caliber for it? Will they accept you without honors?

My son is in the honors program at GW. It does not appear very onerous. (By the way, I understand that anyone accepted into the BS/MD program is automatically put into the honors program.) You can apply to GW, and be denied the honors program, but accepted into GW. My son applied to GW, but not to the honors program. But they put him in it anyway. It was one of the major reasons he decided to go there (over Boston College, etc.) The work is slightly more, but not a lot. You're required to take one honors course per semester, and maintain a 3.4. It's no all that hard, and it does give you some benefit in terms of your resume.

So: little downside, some upside, go for it.

So say I applied to GW's honors program but was denied admission into it, I could still be admitted into the university itself as a regular student?

xanderman: correct. But if you're worried, call then.

Does the honor program provide grad school placement results as compared to the regular university program? For example, I assume that law school admttance to top tier law school would be better if one attends honors program due to program and caliber of students.
