I got in the Honors Program! I'm excited(:

Anyone else get in?

I did too!

I’m a little confused on what it is though – can someone explain?

I got an email saying I’m invited “Honors Experience Day” on Mar. 13th. Does that mean I got into the Honors Program? Because I didn’t apply for it or anything…

got in too but a little sad I didn’t get regents…

^I’m also confused. Does the invitation to the Experience Day mean an acceptance to the Honors Program? Or is there a separate letter for that?

I got the invitation too and checked my UCI account. It said that I was selected for CHP.

Is anyone going on March 13? I’m from Norcal… so I don’t know if I can make it :[ and I don’t want to miss out!

@totalcaprice - I’m sad too haha. I’m hoping not all of them are out yet!

I got in. When do we have to register for Honors Experience Day and do we have to pay for everything? How many people get Honors? How/ when do you find out regents?

Thanks! I don’t know why I didn’t do that earlier. I’m from norcal too, doubt I’ll be able to make it. Instead, I’ll probably call the office and see if I can talk to somebody about the program in April, when I’ll be in the area anyway.
And I don’t know how many people get into honors, but I do know that there are about 650 people in Honors at UCI.

What is the Regents?

Hmm…anyone have any idea what percentage of ppl who get into the Honors program actually goes to UCI? As in, does it attract a significant percentage of students away from say Cal and LA, or even SD?

For what it’s worth, I can tell you that nearly all of the CHP students I know had admission offers from UCLA, Berkeley, other UC’s, and other universities.

@takemeseriously - I’m from Norcal too and I’m visiting in April!

@ryanone - Regents is a renewable scholarship and UCI selects who to give it to (no interview process)

@Pbush - I’m not sure, but the letter in the mail said that 160 people are invited as first-years

Would anyone here pass up the other UCs b/c they got in CHP?

collegebound, I’ve been scouring through these boards and a while back, someone said he’d pass up Harvard for UCI with CHP. I don’t know if CHP is quite that amazing, but the general consensus is that it’s an amazing program.

Now I have a question. Assuming I get into both, UCI with CHP or UCSD without any special perks? I want to be a bio major and I know UCSD is ranked better. However, I heard the social scene at SD was horrible and everyone’s isolated in their own world. Is this true?

@PBush: i’m a current freshman and i know a few of people in the honors program and honors hall in middle earth(the shire…they are quite the studious bunch) and sndebrosse is correct, that nearly all of the CHP students were offered admission someplace else, especially the “higher ranked” UCs. My good friend for example…she was accepted into Berkeley but she chose UCI’s CHP. They offered her A LOT of benefits. And she says she made the right decision.

@chococcokie: according to one of my best friends in UCSD, “out of all the UC schools, i hear the most raves about UCI”. I’m not sure if this is true, but I find it quite accurate lol. A LOT of interesting stuff happens here in this place we call suburbia. And I think what makes UCI stand out from other UCs is the dorm life. Rather than having residential halls w/ 100+ or more residents per building or floor(prominent in the larger UCs:UCLA and even Berkeley), UCI has residential halls that range from 50 to at most 80 residents per hall. And they do not look like 10 story hotels, more like apartments/condominiums OR one big house. This makes the dorming experience more personal and I find it definitely more effective in establishing an awesome social life. My hall for example, since I live in a phase 1 middle earth hall(built in the 70s lol), has 47 residents. We practically are family and we know each other pretty well. This is common in most of the residential halls in middle earth and mesa court and something called “hall pride” is also what makes UCI dorming fun(you’ll get a taste of it if you go to UCI’s orientation(SPOP) during the summer which is probably one of the best or the best orientation program of all the UCs…go search on youtube :D). And outside of the residential halls you’ll get to meet people in your lectures and discussion sections and in amazing campus organizations creating more friends. Idk, but I don’t see my friends in the other UCs having this much fun lol.
And at SD, freshman live in “suites”(cluster of rooms together in each respective college) so I think that limits the amount of people one gets to know, but nevertheless, my friend still has fun even though she does not get to know too many people outside of her suite. I’ve seen a lot of SD students visit their Irvine friends over the weekend because it is apparently “dead” but Irvine is probably just as dead haha, but although the Eater campus might be empty, the residential halls still have life in them thanks to the close relationships created. And i also heard people at SD keep to themselves…but NOT all of them.

As for my other friends in the other UCs such as LA or Berkeley, they resorted to the greek or asian frat/sorority life and don’t hang out too much in the dorms(they don’t even know their neighbors :O) or they joined campus organizations.

But remember! college is what you make of it :)

Ooo I got in on honors as well!
I’m so excited. This is my first acceptance haha

Anyone from the bay area?

Panda, I’m from the bay area.

Bay area as well! :]

I have a question for you bay area people - are you going to fly or drive to Honors Experience Day? (or are you not going at all?)

bay area too! (haha collegebound111, maybe we’ll meet in april!) and ill not be going to experience day, most likely.
