My son was accepted to CP (Business Major), and meets the requirements to apply for the Honors Program. We are wondering if anyone familiar with the program would share your experience (i.e. difficulty of classes, social aspect of living in different dorm). Also can you apply to Cerro Vista as a freshman if you are not in Honors?

Hi. My son is going to apply to the Honors program at CP. He is in engineering. I have heard that it really doesn’t make your program harder. I am hoping that he will meet with other like-minded students and make some friends and connections. They may have some perks such as smalleer class size and research opportunities. i think they also are asked to give back by doing community events.

As for the dorm, they reserve some rooms in Cerro Vista for the honors freshmen. Other freshmen (non-honors) can also live in Cerro Vista. My son isn’t sure about applying to the Honors dorms because he may want a friend to be his roommate and he might not be an honors student. We have to decide by Tuesday!!! He already preferred cerro Vista, so that works for him. Congrats on acceptance and thanks for asking this question.

I’m also interested in this topic. My daughter is applying to the honors program, but we don’t have an “insider” perspective on it. Are the classes smaller? Is the grading harder? Is it OK to live outside of the Honor’s House?

Here some FAQs and other information. Even though my daughter would qualify, it’s too bad the Honors House is located in Cerro Vista. She wants to live in a traditional dorm down closer to campus. I noticed it used to be in Yosemite. Well, I’m not even sure she wants to apply to the program. It sounds ideal for someone like momofmv’s son who already wants to live in Cerro Vista.

Thank you all for sharing the interest! I had read the FAQ and everything else I could find about the program, but I was hoping to hear from someone in the program and get a more personal perspective. I will try to contact the director, and see if I can talk to a student, and if I learn anything, I will post it.

Thank you. That sounds good. I do think that you can be in the Honors program and not live in Honors Housing, although it is recommended.
