Honors Program

What are people's opinion of the Honors Program at Schools (in general)? I've talked to people who have said it is a waste of time, but some like how being in a Honors Program helps when applying for jobs or applying to graduate school. I guess on surface, it sounds like a good idea. But isn't it more important to have a high gpa? So, is Honors worth it or can it dilute the all important gpa if the Honors classes are harder?

For those in Honors, do you try to take as many Honors classes as you can to be challenged or do you do the bare minimum the school requires? I know it is different at all schools, but I was wondering what people think about the Honors Program in general at universities.

My kids try to take as many honors classes as they can. They do so because the classes are smaller and more discussion based. They really enjoy them. Supposedly, the best profs get to teach the honors classes and so far, that has been pretty much true.

By taking these smaller classes, the profs get to know the students more. That comes in handy when you need recs.

^^^^^^^^^^^ bump

They are not all the same and do not all mean the same things. What schools in particular are you referring to?
