My D transferred as a Sophmore and did not qualify for the Macaulay program. She was in the honors program in her previous school. She has done well at Queens this year and would like to be in a program more in line with an honors program, one that is more challenging. Is there an alternative to the Macaulay since one can only get in that program as a freshman?

My D’s friend decided at the last minute to graduate after 11th grade. Since she was so late, she was unable to apply for Macaulay. After a year at CUNY, she was invited to interview for an honors program (not sure which one). She ultimately decided not to do it, but the point is that the option apparently exists, at least at Hunter.

No, I really don’t think there is any alternative to the Macaulay admission. She has to be first-year admitted. She can, however, be considered for the local Honors program. For example, CCNY has two honors program: the Macaulay Honors, and the Honors Program. The latter accepts both transfer students, and continuing students (if you did not get accpeted to the honors program at your admission, you can reapply at the end of your freshman year). I think it is possible for Macaulay students to transfers within the colleges, but I am very sure there is no exception to the admission. I could be wrong. Please contact MHC.
