Honors Question

I have a question regarding the honors program. I would have thought my daughter would have been invited to join this. She has a 4.0 unweighted GPA and 32 ACT. She will graduate #1 in her class of over 450, with her AA through dual enrollment. Am I wrong to be baffled?

You are not wrong, with those stats. Unless there is something about that AA. Honors as I understand it is the first two years. Try calling the number on the honors page to ask. Everyone I’ve talked to has been very helpful.

What is her weighted? They invited based on weighted. I got in with 4.96 weighted.

You can always petition. There’s no reason why, with those stats, she wouldn’t get in via petition.

I don’t know why she wouldn’t have gotten accepted to Honors originally though.

When we did her weighted, we came up with 5.38. I thought that was too high, but we double checked. She has had all honors, AP or dual enrollment the whole time, doubling up on some subjects. She’s graduating with a 4.0 from college, so that should not affect it, just increase it. Her AA is in business, but she will have to take other classes since she won’t be going into that field. I appreciate the input. I just couldn’t figure out why. FSU is calling her to talk to her about going there, so that is going to be a question to them. It will play into the decision, along with other aspects, of course,

If your daughter is really interested in attending FSU call Honors and ask. There may yet be benefits she could realize. There may also be scholarships particular to the department she is interested in as well. I would strongly suggest visiting the department and speaking with faculty to ferret all this out. As FSU is a large state university you must be your own advocate.

It is important to remember Honors is a lower division program and with an AA your daughter is entering as an upper division student. The Honors in the Major program is likely her next goal at FSU, along with individual research with faculty.
