Honors/Scholars Class of 2023

@ScrubStudent maybe it’s because your decision hasn’t been made yet? I don’t know. BUT my son did actually get an email from OSU today about Honors, so maybe we just caught it when it first was decided, before they informed us. If I go to go.osu.edu/scholars it immediately directs us to a login page, my son logs in, and then it goes to https://hsapp.osu.edu/secure/confirmation.aspx, but instead of being blank, it has a bunch of information about his acceptance to Honors. Maybe try it again today.

@sarajayhawk I would re-read your email / mail about not getting into Honors. I bet there is an email or phone number you can call for questions. I doubt selecting a Scholars program would be binding, I think the only thing that makes your acceptance binding is paying your $100 acceptance fee. But it wouldn’t hurt to ask someone at OSU.

This is the email:

Dear Siubhan:

We have received and reviewed your application for the Ohio State Honors & Scholars programs. Due to the competitiveness of the Honors applications this year, we are not able to offer you a place in the University Honors Program for autumn 2019. However, we think that a bright, committed student like you could flourish in the Ohio State Scholars Program, and we invite you to consider applying for this opportunity!

The Scholars programs offer dynamic communities designed to enhance your academics with a wide variety of opportunities to learn outside of the classroom. You can learn more about these living learning communities at honors-scholars.osu.edu/scholars. Many students who participate in Scholars programs also become Honors students as you can apply to the Honors program directly through your college of enrollment after just one semester on campus.

If you are interested in being considered for admission to a Scholars program, you must submit a completed Scholars Program Interest Form by Thursday, January 24, 2019. Here’s what you need to do:

Review our Scholars Programs: The interest form requires you to rank your interest in each of our 17 Scholars Programs. To help you understand the programs and be thoughtful in your rankings, we encourage you to take time to read through the online description of each program. Each Scholars program is centered on a particular theme or area of study and is open to students regardless of their intended majors. Many students select programs that complement rather than completely align with their majors.

Submit the Scholars Program Interest Form by Thursday, January 24, 2019 at go.osu.edu/scholars: Log in using your Ohio State username (mora-bruce.1) and password. Once you have submitted the form, you should expect to receive notification of whether you have been accepted into one of the Scholars programs by late March or early April.

Please note:
Submitting the Scholars Program Interest Form does not guarantee that you will receive placement in a Scholars program, nor in your first choice interest. Many of the programs are highly competitive, so we are unable to offer placement in a Scholars program to all students who submit an interest form.
Students are not selected for Scholars programs based upon the date the interest form is submitted; admission decisions will not be finalized until after the preference deadline.

If you are not interested in being considered for the Scholars Program, you can indicate that decision by logging in at go.osu.edu/scholars and clicking the Decline button at the bottom of the page.

@sarajayhawk Selecting a Scholars preference is not binding in any way. If you get accepted into your preferred scholars program they ask that you either pay the acceptance fee as a way of accepting the scholars status or decline the scholars offer. You still have until May 1 to pay the fee.

Got accepted into the Honors Program yesterday! Seems like they are doing it on a rolling basis; decisions seem to be sporadic. Good luck to everyone!

@sarajayhawk stats?

I didn’t know if I’d get in, so I have no clue if my chances are good or not.

Ours says “To continue in the Scholars application process, you must submit this Scholars Program Interest Form by the deadline indicated in your email.”
Anyone know what this means?

Just figured out what must have happened. In common app we had indicated honors but for whatever reason they are considering us for Scholars Program and so asking us to indicate interest.
Is one program better over the other?

@ScrubStudent 32 act (33 superscored), several dual credit classes (17 credits), president of a club, secretary of student council, ranked 1st in my grade

@Bizdock They are very different programs. I do not think one if better over the other. If I were you, I would read about what they each have to offer. I know that if you chose to do scholars your first year, you can automatically transfer into honors at any time. I would definitely submit your interest form! You can read more about the program at https://honors-scholars.osu.edu/scholars

Thanks @Nasagirl

My son got accepted to OSU yesterday. I logged to the honors page using the link - go.osu.edu/scholars. It says application is still under review, decisions are made on a rolling basis and it could be as late as April that we find out. Just more waiting.

Has anyone who has been accepted into honors college received anything additional since acceptance? Son accepted several weeks ago - but has not received any additional communications about the program.

@iamamom3 We received a postcard the other day about two honors programs within Fisher for honors students, otherwise that is it

D (OOS, WA, 1370 SAT, 3.9 UW gpa) was among the first wave of acceptances and found out today (email came on Jan 15th) that she did not get into Honors. Decided to fill out the Scholars interest choices. Listed Health Sci, Bio Sci, and STEM as top most interested. Let’s see what happens.

@Mombean - How long after your son was accepted did his status change for the Honors Program?

My son (admitted first wave) to Engineering is still waiting on his honors decision. (In- state, 1460, 32 act, 3.98 UW, 4.4 Weighted) one 4 and all else 5s on AP including AP Chem, APUSH, APEuro, AP Physics Junior year. Wish they would tell him one way or the other as we’re going on the Purdue for Me next month. Also hoping he earns a Provost scholarship as his stats are above what they need for that scholarship.

Us too. 1520 SAT; 34 ACT but don’t recall his AP Scores. Good luck to your son!

Good Luck Too!

@MomMartha Sorry I didn’t see your question earlier. It was about a month. He got accepted in the December round, and found out about Honors in mid January.
