My son got accepted into Engineering Honors program a month after being accepted into OSU in December. He has a 31ACT, 4.5 GPA, top 3% of his class, 6 AP and 7 college CCP classes and currently taking Calc III at local college. His essay was really good in my opinion. Lots of EC including Eagle Scout. I have no idea if it’s all about stats, or if the other things matter. Just though those of you waiting to hear might feel better with some information to go on.
Son was just accepted to Engineering and Honors. Accepted to OSU in December. ACT 35/SS36, 4.3 GPA, taking classes on OSU campus as a senior, 7 AP classes. Essay was solid for a 17 year old. Generous amount of ECs, service hours, and he tutors. Very thankful he got in, based on all the quality applicants that already have been admitted that I am reading about here. The other schools he applied to are giving him much more (and quicker) attention it seems. Our whole family is OSU alumni, going back to my parents. Trying to keep this one in the scarlet and grey.
If there is anyone else waiting on the edge of their seats, try and relax.
Are all engineering majors considered premajors?
As far as I know it’s Engineering pre-major.
Son got into Honors. He had a really entertaining essay so I guess they liked it too.
Anyone know the percentage of kids that get into honors?
Maximus was awarded today.
@Blessed3times - How do students find out?
@dreamschool19 Yes, everyone directly admitted to the College of Engineering as a freshman is a pre-major.
Has anyone from the December admittance round gotten notification about merit scholarships - Maximus, Provost and Trustee ? My son qualifies for Provost being in top 3% of class and a 31 on his ACT, but we’ve heard nothing. If you have heard, how did you hear, and how soon after you got admitted did you hear? Thanks! He was notified that he got into Honors.
@Blessed3times When you say Maximus was awarded today, what do you mean? Did you find out about yourself, or did all the offers of scholarships for Maximus go out today? How do you know this, and how were you informed?
I emailed admissions. They said scholarship information will be mailed (not email) by end of February. Honors/Scholars are done on rolling basis through mid-April and will be send via email.
@Mombean “December admittance round gotten notification about merit scholarships”
My D got her notification by mail yesterday.Admitted in December.
Maxumus (3K/yr) + Buckeye OOS (13.5K/yr). ACT 33 (34 superscored), UW GPA 3,85 etc.
@justaparent Thanks for letting me know. I guess we just keep checking the mail and hoping they give some merit money to him. This will be our second in college at the same time, wow, these kids are expensive!
Sorry, was too brief in my last note: Maximus notification for my son was by snail-mail only. Nothing in email or online… @Mombean @MomMartha
@Mombean Last child of 3 for us, spaced 3 years apart each. I have much more respect for parents of multiple kids and getting them through college. My wife keeps reminding me that she convinced me that three blessings were more than enough for us.
My son just received Provost merit award in the mail today. In state, admitted first wave EA in November 32 ACT.
I got denied from Honors last night (In state, 33 ACT), but they suggested I apply to scholars. Does every denial get this suggestion?
My D did. SAT 1370, OOS. She applied and ranked her scholar choices. A couple of weeks ago ad haven’t heard back yet.
I got my valentine’s day present just now - my son got a letter in the mail today telling him he was awarded the Provost merit scholarship (Instate, ACT 31, top 2%, 4.505 GPA Weighted, Engineering Major) He was admitted into OSU in the December wave.
