Were you accepted EA or RD? When is this Honors Scholars Weekend? Sounds like it would be a great opportunity -- congrats!

I went to the Honors Scholars Weekend last year, and I will be hosting one of you guys this year. Be very excited. You are guaranteed acceptance and some sort of scholarship, provided you do not come across as a serial killer in the interview. Last year, 9 of the 50 were offered full tuition scholarships with a summer study abroad stipend, the majority were offered 3/4 scholarships, and just a few were offered 1/2 scholarships. I assume it's something similar this year, although Vandy might be stepping up its scholarships.

You'll basically come here, stay for two nights, tour the campus, visit a few classes (if you want), go to a few parties (if you want), and sit for an interview (unfortunately, this is the necessary part). The interview questions will most likely be based upon what you wrote in your essays, so review them. Otherwise, there's not much to do to prepare for the interview.

I'm looking forward to meeting you candidates. :-).

thanks for the info!!

looking forward to it too....

i applied Regular Decision but found out about the same time as my friends who applied EDII

Is this weekend for the Chancellors Schoalrships as well?

i would like to know as well.

When is the weekend?

March 18-20, I think.

I'm going to the Honors Scholars Weekend...I'm so excited!

Does not receiving an invitation to this Weekend mean you won't be receiving any merit money from Vandy? Because I remember two years ago, my brother was offered ~$22,000/year but never had to go to such an event. Is this event a new function?

Clarification: This weekend is for the big money. You will not be getting the best purely merit-based scholarships Vanderbilt offers if you do not get an invite. However, Vandy offers a lot of scholarships, and you do not have to get an invite to this event to get some sort of aid. This weekend is nothing new; it's been around for quite a few years.

Don't count out significant merit scholarships if you didn't get an invite. My son was offered $22,000 per year (pure merit), and even though it isn't a full scholarship, it is still big money in our minds. He didn't get invited to any scholarship weekends and didn't find out about the merit scholarship until he got his admission packet in April. Good luck!

Dang i got invited to MOSAIC weekend, not the Honors Scholars weekend. Does that mean I won't get that much money?

can you read

Reiterating what bandmom says above: my daughter was not invited to the Honors Scholars weekend 2 years ago, but was nevertheless offered a 3/4 tuition Dean's scholarship and designated a College Scholar when she received her acceptance. It was a great surprise - she'd read on CC about the weekend and presumed that significant scholarship money would not be awarded to applicants who weren't invited. She knows several Vandy students who had the same experience.

Luxar3000, bandmom, and frazzled1, would y'all mind telling some general stats about your brother/daughters who got these scholarships without being invited to the Honors Scholars Weekend? I just wanted to see if I have a chance of receiving something like that. Thanks in advance!

At your request cheercheer, my son's stats:

GPA 5.627 weighted, 3.9655 unweighted
Class rank 8/589 (extremely competitive HS)
National Merit Finalist
SAT (old) 1510 (800M/710 V)
ACT Composite 35
SAT II M 800, Wr 710, Physics 740 (taken Jr. year)
AP's-many
Took most difficult course load at HS
Solid EC's but no real leadership positions
Applied to Engineering

Hope this helps.

My d's stats are similar to bandmom's son's - identical SAT scores (800M/710V); SAT IIs were 800 Math iic, 800 US History, 790 Latin. 6 APs (maximum at our high school). Solid but not spectacular ECs: flute, dance, part-time job for 2 years. NMS (all National Merit Finalists at Vandy receive Vandy's National Merit Scholarship; at least $5K unless other merit aid is awarded, in which case I believe the amount awarded is $2K/year).

Our hs doesn't weight or rank, but it does announce the kid with the highest GPA - and it was my d, to our surprise and excitement.

My d went to an introductory College Scholars meeting her freshman year, where it was announced that the average M/V SAT for the Scholars that year was 1560. She said, "Wow, I really felt like the low end in that room!" :)

Best of luck - my d loves Vandy and can't imagine being anywhere else. Her top choice before finding out about the merit scholarship was UVA (Echols).
