After finishing my first year at college with a 4.0, both Phi Eta Sigma (freshman honors society) and Phi Sigma Iota (foreign literature and language honors society) invited me to become a member. I don't know anything about the fraternal system; the extent of my knowledge comes from cursory glances at each society's respective Wikipedia page/home page. Can I join both, and if not, which has a better networking system/looks better upon graduation? Thanks!

There should be no reason why you would not be able to join both. Besides that, I know nothing about either, so can’t really tell you much about their networking.

Generally speaking, it’s only social greek organizations that have rules like forbid multiple memberships (although you can be in a social greek organization AND a non-social typically).

Are they worth it? I don’t see myself ever attending a convention – or directly participating at all really-- and hesitate to spend ~$50 per organization.

These “honor societies” invite pretty much anyone who gets over a 3.0. I get a few invites every semester and they go straight into the trash. I doubt these will have much advantage for your resume.
