Honors stats for BC?

Can any of you accepted tell me your ststs that got you into honors?

I got into honors, and these are my stats:
SAT 1520(760/760), W-780, Spanish-740, Bio-M-730, Math IC-710, Math IIC-690. A- average.
Taking a full college courseload with 5 freshman classes, 5 sophmore classes, and 2 junior classes (WPI goes on a quarter schedule), with A's and B's.
Tons of EC's, but my big ones are Mock Trial all 4 years, Tae Kwon Do for 6 years (all kinds of awards). I volunteer in the ER, and mentor elementary school kids.

For honors, unlike the more holistic look they claim to give your whole application, it seems like they base it all on mostly on your transcript and test scores. If you have an A average with a rigorous courseload, plus SATs around 1450 and SAT IIs around 700, you stand a good chance of getting into honors (assuming you have at least a few ECs, even if they are un-amazing). I'm only basing this on observations I've made looking at these forums and who gets into honors and who doesn't, so I'm by no means an authority on the subject. If you don't make it in, you can always be invited to join after a successful freshman year at BC.

Hey, I got into the honors program also, here are my stats:

SAT-1490 (780 math;710 verbal), SAT IIs- Math IC(720) Math IIC(750), Writing (770), weighted GPA=4.8 out of 5, Ap Physics-B in 11th grade, and 5 APs this year

Activities: soccer, indoor track, lacrosse (school team and elite team), Dance
(14 years), Drama Club(Head Choreographer), NHS(secretary), Girls Ultimate Frisbee Team(Founder and Captain), Science League, French Club, LOTS of volunteer work (Special Olympics, youth coaching, etc..)

Awards: English Award of Excellence (11th grade), PreCalculus Award of Excellence(11th grade), Dance tap competition(1st place), National Commended Scholar, Colby College Book award, ....and lots of summer activities (camps, summer theater(lasts all summer), volunteer work, etc...)

hey i got into the hnrs college
1470...750v, 720m.....790writing, 720math ic, 730 chem
1/250 gpa: 4.87
awards: one first place in science, two book awards
pres of a few clubs

good luck!

I was deferred at Dartmouth but got into A&S Honors Here

1550...730writing...670chem...660Math IIc
2/230...4.46 gps
AP US Hist Exam: 5
taking 5 APs, basketball, school paper, model UNs, VP of Best Buddies, some other stuff

anyone know anything more about the honors program in terms of how good it is, how it compares to other places, etc?

you planing on attending BC or you waiting out Dartmouth? I was also deffered at Dartmouth

At this point I'm not sure where I'm going to go. I think I'm gonna apply to some other places like Amherst, Williams, Georgetown and see what happens at Dartmouth before I decide. However, I do like BC a lot still and I'm going to go to those events at the campus and check it out. I live about 45 minutes south of Boston in MA so I like the location, like the city, I've been to BC football games and they're great. I don't like that about the cars though since I'd like to be able to drive home easier although taking the T then getting picked up halfway home isn't so bad I guess. So I'm pretty much still up in the air right now. How bout you, did you get into BC or just thinking of applying?

"anyone know anything more about the honors program in terms of how good it is, how it compares to other places, etc?"

Sean965, I've read on this board and heard from some knowledgeable friends that the BC Honors Program is considered excellent. It's an integrated program of study, so it will have an impact on the courses you select, and it's writing-intensive. It apparently allows you to complete most of the A & S core curriculum in seminar-type classes. It looks from the brochure as if you take 6 credits per semester in the first 2 years in these seminars, meaning that you do get to select classes of specific interest to you as well. There's a 2-semester seminar in junior year, and a senior thesis or an "integrative seminar" senior year. A 3.33 GPA is required to continue in the program.

I know that other schools offer thier Honors Program students perks like first shot at registration, preferred housing, etc. I haven't had a chance to ask my daughter if BC does the same.

I really like the setting and environment of BC and I think that it would be a great fit, but I’m still somewhat concerned with its USNews rank. I understand that the rankings aren’t that important, but I’m concerned with its prestige. Is the honors program at BC considered to be as prestigious as schools that are ranked a lot higher in USNews? What schools would it be comparable to? For example, is it similar in prestige to Notre Dame and Vanderbilt, or is it more along the lines of Duke, Stanford, etc? Thanks

i’d like to know the same, thanks

All of the Honors Program students that I had classes with usually got into schools like Notre Dame, John Hopkins, UPenn, Cornell, Northwestern, Harvard (only one), Duke (only one), MIT (only one), USC, Tufts, and few other decent schools. The HP usually attracts pretty bright kids so it’s not unusual to have kids turning down schools ranked above BC. Although this is only my personal experience.

thanks Reddune; any other opinions or experiences?
