Hi everyone, I am new to College Confidential so bear with me aha.
I am a Junior high schooler almost finishing first semester, so I have to start looking at colleges. Most likely public colleges since my family can't really afford private universities. I'm from Wisconsin so Madison is an option, and I've been interested in U-Washington and some others.

I've been taking all honors since freshman year, and my grades, let's just say, have not been the best.
Freshman year- 3 Honors, 2 accelerated- ~3.8 unweighted GPA (mostly A's, few A-/B+)
Sophomore year- 2 honors, 1 AP, 2 accelerated- ~3.0 unweighted GPA (mostly B's, few A's, 2 C's in geometry which I sucked at)
Junior year (right now)- 3 AP's, 2 Honors, 1 accelerated- ~3.0 GPA (mostly B's, one A in AP Physics, one C+ which I'm working hard to change)

ACT: 29 (first time, no studying, 3 hours of sleep- plan to retake it)
Class Rank: Top 10% all years since my weighted honors classes help me so much.

Extra Curriculurs:
BBYO- vice president for a year, planning to be president in a few months
Co-Founder and Co-Vice President of Business Club
Head of Model UN Delegation for two years (out of around 10 people in our committee)
Swim team 2 years (not this year, but next year I'll continue)

That's about it, I'm starting to worry a lot haha. Tell me some of my options, where should I reach/hope for. What's out of my league, etc.

Well I mean UW-Madison is an AWESOME option to have so you should be pretty safe with that. I think that top 25 or so colleges (according to the overly-publicized rankings) are going to be out of the reach given the competitive nature of their pools. You’re still the running for some great schools depending on your ACT score and how the rest of your transcript turns out. So no worries, you’re going to have options. Could you maybe list what you’re looking for in a college or university (e.g. size, ‘vibe,’ location, LAC or university, specific programs perhaps) because that will make recommendations a lot easier. Also can you give a demographic profile (gender, ethnicity, what kind of kids your high school churns out)… that information helps too. While a little worrying is okay, don’t drive yourself crazy yet (you have senior year fall for that! :P) because you’ve got time to work on your standardized testing, your grades and your game plan!

I’m not sure what BBYO is but I’m glad that your impending coup will make you president in the near future. Business club founding shows initiative. Swim team in a resume sense isn’t going to be worth your time (unless you think you could swim perhaps DIII), so i would say continue that if you really enjoy it – if you’re just doing that for your resume perhaps you should consider dropping it and really focusing on academics… just a suggestion.

Anyway, I can’t make any concrete suggestions until I get more of an idea of what you want!

BBYO is a Jewish organization for teens. I do swimming for enjoyment. I am white and Jewish.
My school is very good, very competitive- many people go to Madison, some people go to Ivy Leagues. Im in the 10% of my class but most of the people like me (taking all honors) are getting better grades than me.
I have no idea what I want. I am satisfied with most things in life- I am just looking for the best schools I can get into. Freshman year I was set on getting into top 10 colleges, now you’re telling me top 25 is a reach, which is fine, I have to be realistic with myself.
I plan on majoring on maybe Urban Studies/International Relations- but I’m interested in so many things so I have no idea for my major!

I also went to International Science Fair since I won 1st in my science fair haha just to add to my small list of things.
