I’m transferring to a big school next year for 10th grade, going from a HS of 200 kids, to almost 2000. I am taking 4 honors this year and getting decent grades(3 A’s, 2 B’s and a C) However at this new school they don’t have many honors classes and not too many AP’s either. Will this look bad on my high school transcript to schools?
I don’t think it will; you’re working with what you have. Plus, if you really want to take an AP course you can self-study it or talk with your future counselor to see what can be worked out. Just try to make the most of the opportunities in your new school. Best of luck!
You will not be penalized for not taking classes that not available at your new HS. Just take the most rigorous schedule that is offered at your school and you should be fine.
Definitely take the most rigorous courses you can take.
Check because typically larger high schools have more choices of classes and thus a higher likelihood of honors and AP classes - unless it’s a low performing school.
@MYOS1634 At my current school they only offer honors classes but at the new school they don’t offer as many
Do they offer AP? IB? College-in-High-School?
@MYOS1634 They offer College-in-highschool which doesnt interest me and they offer AP courses heres a look at the HS classes ill be taking 9th is at my school now and 10th and on is my new school here it is: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/high-school-life/1933360-how-does-my-transcript-look.html#latest
Sophomore year you could take one AP to challenge yourself, honors English and honors math?
They probably use college-in-high school for the more advanced studentd, so think of those classes as honors and AP classes at our current school.
Make sure you have one each of bio, chemistry, and phyqics/physical science, math through pre-calculus or calculus, foreign language up to level 3-4, plus 4 years of English and social science.
@MYOS1634 Yeah I have 6 periods a year and 4 semesters and i need either 23 or 24 credits so its hard to get all the core classes to have 3 and 4 credits
6 periods = English, Math, Social science, Science, Foreign language +1 period.
@MYOS1634 Yes but I am required to have 7 elective credits and 1 art credit. Are you good with planning like high school classes and stuff cause I could PM you my requirements and possible classes to take
My guess is that foreign language and art will count among the elective credits. Also, the 7+1 are over all 4 years, right?
@JCVeil extra core classes beyond the graduation requirements count as elective credits so its not really too hard to fit everything in.
