Honors U.S. History is killing my GPA

Just got my progress report, results are -

Honors Algebra II: B - (Ugh, got a zero on a project because I handed it in ten minutes late and my teacher doesn't accept anything after the bell for class has rang >.>)
English 10: A-
Honors Biology: B+
P.E.: A+
Accounting I: A+
Spanish III: A-
Honors U.S. History: C-

I have no idea what to do, I've never had an issue with history before! My problem is my teacher's teaching style is mostly give lectures and pass out worksheets (which we never seem to go over). We never have review sessions or helpful study guides either. Also, lots of her lectures have hardly anything to do with her tests!

However, it did come to my attention that she seems to base a FEW of the test questions on the online quizzes provided by American Pageant (the textbook we use).

I don't know what to do. Recording my teacher's lectures are pointless because they hardly have to do with her test and assessments and I already take notes and review the book OVER AND OVER again.

I guess my teacher's teaching method and my learning style really clash. Should I drop down a level? My issue with that is that I would still have the same teacher just a less challenging course level. I'm HARDLY maintaining this low C and my teacher's extra help sessions are not helpful. D:

My guidance counselor said a B in a lower level looks better than maybe a D in Honors. She even personally told me she thinks the main issue is the teacher. (Already 12 of her 64 honors students have dropped the course). I really wish I had been assigned a different teacher.

Any suggestions?

I’m actually having the same issue. My USH grade is somewhere in the 80’s, and I’m totally not sure of what to do…

For your situation though I’d say get a tutor or ask another peer for help and try it for just a little longer and see what happens. If nothing improves; drop it. :/

If someone is truly determined to do well in a course, they’ll do well. Regardless of the teacher themselves. I’ve had teachers who spoke little English, teachers who never taught a single lesson all year, and teachers who could care less about going over homework with us, and I have never managed anything lower than a B+. Don’t take this as self righteous, but if you really want to do well in History, you can find the resources.

Are there other History teachers you can go to after school? I’m sure they won’t turn you down, or perhaps private tutoring. Maybe even have a friend of yours who is a History buff help you out.

I’m having the same issue, my earth science teach is so bad, I undestand the physics lectures more than his class.

your teacher must be getting her test content from somewhere… can you ask her how she formats the tests?
