I know other threads have gotten into this question but I would like to have a straightforward and clear answer as to whether taking honors classes gives you a better chance at med school admissions perhaps even with a slightly lower grade than taking regular classes with a somewhat higher grade will? Really Im wondering if A's in Honors classes particularly in the sciences are possible without too much stress/work or actually worthwhile the extra work they require? I know it may be a psychological factor for the person taking an honors class but is there any true practical benefits in the long haul? Thanks.

PS I would appreciate if cuurent students could comment especially if they resolved such an issue themselves already?

Do not take honors classes just to impress med school adcoms, and don’t expect a lower grade in an honors class to look more impressive than a higher one in the regular class. Take an honors class if you are very interested in the subject.

Thanks for the info schrizto. Would you say an honors course would be worth the extra time and work if I were to get the same high grade I would get in a regular course of the same subject to a med adcom’s decision to choose me over someone else similarly qualified? (this is all considering I do have interest in whatver subject it may be)? Do you have any personal experience in honors classes that you can share, perhaps on its difficulty compared to high school AP classes in terms of workload/difficulty? And I understand too that you are premed judging from other posts? Could you comment on your time at Pitt so far?

If you’re premed, and if I were you, I wouldn’t go looking to make my classes any harder, because they will be plenty hard as it is. You need to focus on getting as high a GPA as possible.

Yes LurkNessMonster that’s what I’m finding out too and plan to do

Anyone else have any imput on this issue?
