Honors

Can I 'apply' to the program after 1 or 2 semesters of really good grades? I didn't make it into the program as a freshman and I am wondering if I could try next year as a sophomore.

Also, do I apply or does a commitee have to approach me?

Yes, you can do it. You need to have a 3.8+ GPA, a letter of recommendation from one of your professors, write a short essay and go through an interview. No one will approach you, you need to apply.

Sorry, that’s not true. The gpa requirement to apply for honors is 3.6. I’m a mentor.

thanks both of you! Cant wait for fall  I’ll definitely try entering the program eventually.

the gpa requirement was a 3.6+ but it’s been changed to a 3.8+ as of last year

There it is. 3.8+

I applied this semester, and they said that they might have some room if too few people cross the threshold. Bear in mind that you apply before the grades are out, so you do not know exactly what your GPA will be when they will be evaluating your application.

Good to know Kvasek, so I guess that I’ll have to give it my all, hopefully I won’t have a hard time making good grades. (Or excellent in this case haha)

Kvasek when did you apply, your first or second semester? I don’t know when I should apply for it, I am starting as a freshman next fall, should I apply on december?

I applied at the end of the spring semester that has just ended. I am still waiting for acceptance/rejection. From what I know, you can apply both in December and April, as well as after your freshman year.

Thanks kvasek! I hope you are accepted :)

No way… Wow. I can’t believe they upped it. 3.8 is REALLY hard to get, and even harder to keep… I just topped it last semester for the first time, and I worked my butt off. It might just be because of how huge the freshman honors class was last year- there isn’t really any room to let more people in, especially if they think this coming year will be as big.
