when we visited our admissions counselor suggested that even if not accepted into honors (stats slightly below) it doesnt hurt to apply if interested? does anyone know of anyone who got in this way? are honors students required to live in landis?

I think someone on the board petitioned to be accepted in honors and got in. I can't recall who it was. You don't have to live in Landis to be in honors.

fsu.edu | Admission

If you have two out of the following three qualifications:
-3.7 FSU weighted GPA (e-mail them to see their weighting)
-1260+ on SAT and/or 28+ on ACT
-a class rank in the top ten percent of your graduating class
then you can defer for honors.
You can also try for lateral admission into the honors program by getting a 3.8 or better in your first semester at FSU.

You do not have to live in Landis, it is reserved so that only students in the honors program may live there, but honors students may also live anywhere else, even off campus, and be in honors. You do however, have to take a seminar class in the fall semester of your first year in the honors program and maintain a 3.2 GPA to stay in honors.
