So I have been accepted into SeattleU and now I am curious about the honors programs (Core and University).

From reading their websites I am pretty sure you need to be invited to be considered for the programs (even though University Honors has a link to their application on the site), so I was wondering when invitations usually come out?

So prospective students: has anyone received an invite? And current students: do you know when invite usually are mailed out?

I applied early action last year, so my experience may be different from what yours might be, but last year I think the deadline for applying to Core Honors was technically April 1st. I can’t speak to University Honors from experience at all (I was neither invited nor personally interested), but if you’re really interested in either program it wouldn’t hurt to inquire, sooner rather than later. (I know the Core Honors webpage is currently hideous, but the contact info for the director is the same; the admin assistant is not.)

If you have any other questions about the programs, feel free to air them here or shoot me a PM. I’m a freshman in Core Honors right now (which I love), but I know some things about University Honors.

Thank you for replying to this so quickly! I sent an email to the program director as you suggested. Hopefully I will get a reply back on it!

If you don’t mind me asking, what is your major? I am curious because I plan to be a Chemistry major and from what I have read it seems that Core fits better for science majors than University Honors does…

Hey,

I got an invite to both honors programs (cores & university) a couple of weeks ago. That’s odd that they would leave the app out for everyone, but maybe they’re looking for initiative. The due dates sometime in April, pretty close.

I would recommend Cores if you want to be a chemistry major. It will give you more space to take the classes required for your major.

Best hopes! Let me know what happens.

I’m a journalism major. Core Honors was actually first conceived and designed to allow people like science majors (and others with rigid or intense major requirements) to fit in an honors program, so Core would definitely work out better. I have a friend in the program who applied for University Honors and then found out she wouldn’t be able to graduate in 4 years if she did it.

harharsayz: Are you applying to either/both?

I haven’t got an email back yet from the program director. I thought since I received one of the Trustee scholarships that I would be competitive for Honors, but if they’ve already sent out invites maybe I am not? I wonder how many invites they give out. Did you get a scholarship, harharsayz, because maybe you have to get the Presidential scholarship for Honors to even give a nod in your direction?

shiftyeyes: I asked if we could apply to both and you can’t, you have to choose one. Honestly, I don’t think I am. I think I’ll be to bogged down with activities and finding out what I want to be, I’m content with not being in honors.

SarSarHanHan: I’m a Trustee as well. I would just apply if I were you.

My d got a presidential scholarship and was sent letters of invitation to apply to both the University and the Core Honors programs. She’s applying to the Core program because she wants to double-major.
