Hoofers Club

D likes outdoor activities such as SCUBA, kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, horseback riding etc. The Hoofers Club looks very interesting. Do a lot of students get involved in this program? Do Freshmen?

She's not much of a winter sports participant so that might be a problem with our long Wisconsin winters.

Hoofers is one of the most popular clubs on campus, and the second biggest outdoor organization on any college campus in the US I think. It’s open to all students and I was going to join last fall, but you have to be eighteen to join I believe, and thusly I didn’t want to pay dues for only part of the year. There are six different segments I believe ranging from: sailing, skiing, outing, scuba, climbing maybe and something else. There really something for everyone I would say. I would say a lot of these slow down in winter due to the snow and such besides ski club, but for the rest of them I think April-November they go in full strength. Sailing is an especially popular one for students who stay in summer apparently. I will definitely be joining next year for outing and possibly skiing or sailing.

sounds awesome : )

Add horses to the Hoofer’s roster. A great club and UW asset.

I’ve gone on Hoofers Ski trips, Hoofers Outing and Hoofers Backpacking. These trips are incredible, low-cost, and the people I’ve gone with have become lasting friends.

It’s highly regarded as one of the best outdoors organizations in the country.
