Is USABO/Siemens/Intel a "science" hook, as in a legit hook the caliber of an arts supplement?

Bump please…

It’s certainly something that I’d make Cornell aware of and will make you stand out!!

This may be semantics, but I think of a ‘hook’ as something that gives an applicant an advantage for being part of a group (as opposed to a specific accomplishment of the applicant). URM or Legacy, for example.

Winning a prestigious award is likely to have the same positive impact on an application, Because it makes the candidate stand out, perhaps it’s better than a hook. At the end of the day, as I say, it’s semantic.

Any school you apply to should be made aware of any of those awards.

Did you win? Or just participate? Big difference.

I will participate; I’m just wondering if it’s a hook.

Participating is an activity.

Winning is an award.

Winning when you are African-American and 6’10"–that is a hook.
