hook????

what makes a hook a hook? if i do reviews for literature and film review sites that receive the latest releases from Penguin publicists etc do I have a minor hook or is it just a blunt anchor that keeps me on the seabed?? (sorry for the pun ;))

Umm... that's not a hook. A hook might be having a novel published or writing reviews for a major newspaper. Activity hooks have to be at a very high level, usually winning some sort of a national competition or doing something that's very unusual for a high school student.

Blunt anchor that keeps you on the seabed. Sorry. It's still a cool extracurricular though. I don't know anyone who does that.

Is being smart from an extremely poor urban school with an extremely high dropout rate a hook... maybe under-representation?

Just wondering...

Why do you care whether your accomplishment fits that label/category? So what if it's a hook or not a hook...your activities are great, they're all you've got, so be proud of them

jillpod...that might be a hook per se like being a URM, but that will certainly help!
