Hook?

I'm an international student trying to get into harvard (or brown).

I need a hook. I don't really know what makes something a 'hook.' Can anyone help me decide if I have a hook?

ECs so far:
-Two acting contracts, both with a different talent agency in Toronto. I had to audition for both. I was an extra in a movie, although this was before the two contracts, and I dont think the movie actually turned out (went over-budget). I have auditioned for a Bell tv. commercial, and met with canada's top casting directors, but i havent actually gotten a part, and i doubt i will since my contract is coming overdue soon.

-Im bilingual (french+english), and im going to be living in france for three months.

-Semi-finalist in an international poetry contest, and the poem is being published in a poetry anthology.

Possible ECs for hook:
-Im really into writing horror, and im compiling a horror short story anthology which i HOPE to get published. I dont have enough stories yet, but the ones I have are pretty good.

I can't really think of anything else. If none of these are a good enough hook, I'd appreciate any suggestions. thank you in advance.

A Hook is just something interesting about you. A lot of the times Hooks are things you can't control, like being born a URM. Sometimes they are things you can control. My GC told me that ivies often like people who have lived abroad and have an "international perspective" which generally comes across in their EC's/interests.

I think that if you continue to progress in acting that could be a hook.

okay thank you.

anyone else?

a hook is not just something interesting about you, or half of harvard's applicants would have "hooks". hooks are things that really distinguish you from the rest of the applicant pool. to name some from another thread:
1 -Double Legacy + Grandparent legacy
2 -Single Legacy
3 -URM Native American
4 -URM Black/Hispanic
5 -Varsity 4 years + 2 years as captain of 2 tennis and basketball
6 -Low Income + First Generation
7 -RSI/TASP
8 -Professionally published work (poetry, science, etc)
9 -Disability (hearing loss, loss of a limb, wheelchair, etc)
10 -Born in an exotic country, grew up in 5 different countries, fluent in 4 languages.
