How much of a difference do you guys think a hook like parents only finishing some high school/no family or siblings in college would make? I always thought I'd be considered a minority, but I doubt being Iranian will make a difference since I'm still caucasian and I was born here. I have top grades in the hardest classes offered at my school but my SAT scores are mediocre, (I'm thinking I'll score 2000 max) but I've only taken the PSAT once so far and I didn't do too well. Unfortunately I'm not the best at standardized tests and they play a huge role in getting accepted to some of the schools I'm interested in so I want to know if maybe this "hook" will help me. I'm dedicated to the EC's I do but I'm not sure there is really a "pattern." I just love working with people there isn't a real connection between the different places I help out. So any advice/thoughts on this would help, thanks:)

this is an old post but I'd still love some insight

First generation college helps if you are already qualified for a school. In other words, it will give you a head to head advantage over a similar candidate. It will not pull you up a tier on its own.

Thanks, I'd mostly need it to help with my SAT score that isn't horrible, but not great either.
