Hooks for Int'ls

wasnt she school sports captain too or something? Amazing considering she was exceptiona in academics too. ANd in INdia that rareyl happens in 11th and 12!

yeah. thats neat actually. Im participating in 2 sports, (soccer and X-country), in drama, and not bad at academics. so i hope my well roundedness will be taken into account. any of u guys really into sports?

btw. NoFX, it depends on the uni. HYP, MIT couldnt care less. Stanford - DEFINITELY. smaller ones as well.

Yeah im realy into sports.I think I play everything my school has to offer except table tennis and/or pingpong (are they the same sport?), volleyball. The ball is too light and tiny for me! My main focus is (1st XI) soccer - there's so much training involved. And my second focus is probably hockey.
Since half of my sports are varsity, my acadamics are not perfect but i guess they are ok. And maybe it's stress or something but I happen to have an 'attitude' to teachers.
And I'm not in any drama things although it's everywhere in my school - I just can't do the whole performing thing!

soccer is great eh? unfortunately, americans couldnt give a shi* abt it :(

you guys are lucky you get to play lots of sports...

Nomad,Ritz hasnt done a single EC in the past 2 years. All that was till class 12

alyssa - honestly, i dont think sports play a major role as ECs by itself. I was the captain of my state's basketball team and here in India, I am considered to be a decent player but in the US, I am not even good enough to be a extra player.

The only exception to that is if you can spin it. If you can tell them about the teamwork needed for sports, the leadership role that you played or how you motivated your team when you were losing, that is when they get interested in sports.

cops - americans are picking up soccer really fast (esp. women) after nascar, soccer is the second fastest growing sports in the US according to the tv viewership

"The only exception to that is if you can spin it."
Adides, ure absolutely right.Thats how cooking leads to accountancy and math skills :p

akash, ughh cooking is so hard! I accurately measure everything, carefully follow every procesure on the recipe and the food still tastes crap!.. and I'm good at maths..

i don't even try cooking anymore
last time i set my kitchen on fire lol!

NoFX, did your cookbook teach you how hard you'd have to beat eggs, how strong the heat must be? :D You can measure ingredients, but not abstract things like mixing them together :D It is what makes cookery an art :D

lol :p

lol adides trust me arena bowl is next !!! Btw callthecops, soccer is a gaining popularity in the US

how good do u have to b to get on a college sports team? i really want to so badly

i think the competition is really cut throat

and for int'ls...pshhh...unless ur a national champ, i see that u really have no chance at NCAA or Ivy sports. Maybe a club or intramurals, but nothing more.

possibl hooks if i ever apply for an MA or PhD

speak 4 languages, a little of a fifht passive knowledge of latin

was close to publishing a paper i wrote as a third year undergraduate

taught classes to first and second year undergrads as a student assistant in my third year

gave fluency and pronunciation training to international studen per request of her teacher

worked as an assistant to a tutor

am in the english students theatre group

am in the leiden students choir (hey, i had to audition okay!)

have a position in the advisory committee for the appointmen of a new professor of american literature, i was asked to fill this position by the board of the english department

erm, I'm way cool :)

oh and more importantly....i was practically asked to join/apply for a position in the research group of one of my tutors/professors....which equals a PhD position...(those are rather rare at dutch universities since phd studetns are part of staff...rather than just students)

o so do u have to go to tryouts and stuff? or whats the actual system?

nomad, are you dyslexic? no offence, i think dyslexics are cool. JUst saw you do THis and wondered :p
