Hooks for the Ivies

calmom; I think the Harvard example you are giving about college brochures is a poor one...your original point, I thought, was that such mailings might give a misleading picture of college life. No organization or institution would be expected to publicize internal administrative issues such as this in their mailings to prospectve students.

Calmom, I thought you were right about the doctored viewbook. The privacy of the institution aside, I especially take offense by the sexist comment he made: There are plenty of women who are geniuses in math and science, and JUST AS MANY men who are dumb as posts, and, of course, vice versa. I especiially love his attempt to fix that faux pas with money!:D Mathematical and scientific ability has relatively little to do with gender; it has more to do with personality and the way the brain is wired. I cite my brother and sister, both of whom have artistic personalities. Neither one of them understands math easily but both are very talented artists. My younger sister FAILED her Algebra II final exam, but she excels at abstract art. As for me, I can beat most if the boys in math and science, but the extent of my artistic ability is linear and progressive. My younger brother is that way, too. He has been tested at a genius IQ, but his drawings of goats consist of boxes with stick legs, ears, and eyes. And by now you may have observed that I have a lot of siblings: 5 to be exact.
