If you have an amazing story to go along with immigrating to the US, then that can be a hook.

should i attach a brief essay or talk about it in my main essay. In my main essay I am actually discussing my year-off in India which I will be doing now. I have not been there in over 10 years.

I guess when it comes to some Asian whose parents have been educated here and when it comes to a 1st generation Asian like myself attending college, I am curious as to if college take that into account at all. These are just minute small detail/hooks.

Not even a minor hook because it is not as uncommon as you think it is. Remember, America is a country of immigrants so there are many people of different nationalities and ethinic background who also share your story.

By the way, since my parents are international, out of curiousity wiht poeple in this situation, but cant you just lie and say that your parents never attended college, since how are they going to check internationally

The funny thing about lies is that they always come out. Since you sign your application stating that the information you provided is true, lying can and will be cause fro rescinding your admission or even your degree if you have graduated leaving you with a worthless piece of paper.

well I dont plan on lying. I mean I definetely wont lie about MY accomplsihments or anything. I am just wondering if I dont put anything for my parents and just say later on I forgot or didnt know where.. just curious

You sound a little desperate to find any hooks to gain an edge in college admissions.
When I applied last fall, I didn't even worry about if I had any hooks at all (I am asian, immigrated with family when I was 10, both parents did not attend college).

Rather than thinking about hooks, work on your grades and ECs while you still have a chance.

my grades and ECs are fine. I am just triying to get every bit edge thats all

I agree with crazyparadisev who told you to work on your grades and EC's while you still have a chance because it seems that your comprehension skills are a bit lacking as what part of this statement do you not understand...

*You sign your application stating that the information you provided is true, lying can and will be cause for rescinding your admission or even your degree if you have graduated leaving you with a worthless piece of paper. *

This includes lies of both omission and comission because you were still less than truthful. Have confidence in your self and let the process play it self out because in the end you will be where you need to be.

don't lie about it. have you no shame?!?!

I am not going to lie guys. I was simply just curious as to these small minute details.

Thanks for your opinions and outlook on this issue. I am only trying to see what colleges may lean towards to as far as my background goes. I mean I know a lot of people are in my position but I also know I may make a small group of people who apply who fit the same background.

thanks once again.
