Hooks or myths?

These are a few hooks (?) that I have seen....some apply to me so I am wondering if they are myths or not...

Hooks/helpers in admissions (whatever):

-Coming from a rural school
-Taking more AP classes than the school offers
-Taking lots of internet classes (intellectual curiosity)
-Making around 60 to 65K (a semi-hook?)

what do you mean by myth...as in whether they actually help or not in admissions? Of course they help...I think you know that already. However, they aren't hooks meaning that they won't play THAT much of a role in admissions.

apfreak,

The only REAL hooks are:

-URM
-Poor
-Legacy
-National Recognition

and recruited athletes

poor is a hook?!

i never thought i'd be so excited about being dead broke!

How poor is poor?

I wouldn't call URM and being poor a hook. By themselves, they aren't going to guarantee you a spot at harvard. Now, if an applicant is an URM, poor AND exhibits the qualities desired by harvard, now we're talking.

The only REAL hooks are:

-URM
-Poor
-Legacy
-National Recognition

I'd add recruited athletes and first-generation...while being skeptical of first-generation and its influence on the whole process.
