Okay so my parents and I disagree. They think that my hook is that I am a white girl interested in math / science (ESPECIALLY physics). So what do you on CC think? Is this a legit hook or not? Feel free to discuss what a hook is and examples of hooks. Try not to mention URMs, as that is a controversial topic.

bumpity bump bummpmmppppp

Good for you, triangles, the world needs more girls like you. Whether you have a hook or not depends on too many unknown variables. What you do need to do, regardless, is to demonstrate your interest and achievement in concrete and/or vivid ways. Don’t play up the notion that you or your parents think that this is a hook, just be honest about what you’ve done and where you want to go, and let that speak for itself.

Beyond boarding school, it will definitely be an admit slip to any engineering program in the country as long as you do well… Engineering schools are in pursuit of female candidates. Also, a lot of investment banks recruit Engineering student because of their math skills. Just an FYI for future which I realize is in the distance. Good Luck. BTW I would suggest you review you athletic performance and fill out a prospective athlete form. Balancing school work and athletics is considered positive.

Okay thank you everyone for your helpful advice! I am a competetive swimmer so will try to figure out how to send that form in.

Interest in an academic subject that is a prerequisite for every student to graduate from high school is not a hook, no matter what sex, race or nationality you are.

If u are a fast swimmer, I would promote that talent to make u stand out from the pack.

triangles, it may not be a hook per se, but there are schools with programs geared to your interests where you would be a great fit – and could therefore be a real plus in your application. I don’t know which schools you’re considering, but Westover comes to mind - with their Women In Science & Engineering program.
