Hooks, Tips, n' Tricks! v2.0

Who knows.. they could've had too much wine that night? Or someone dared them to do it!

Hey, let's put it this way, you are as likely to get rejected from Yale as Zhai...

omg Zhai is my hero. He's going to Harvard, though. I'm not sure if he applied to Yale.

I'm just hoping my.... erm... "experimental essay" didn't kill my application. :P

who is zhai?

Alex Zhai. On the US IMO team at least twice, probably more, perfect scores on the USAMO at least once. And he's really short.

Umm.. what's an MOPper?

Alex Zhai:
3 Time US IMO Team Member
2 Gold Medals
1 Silver Medal
Perfect Score on the IMO
etc etc

Probably among the top three most qualified high school graduates last year.

I've never had the honor of meeting him in person, but from interactions on the internet, he seems awesome

...wait, seriously?

Yeah? Seriously. I tried to work it out but can't think what it is. Sorry if it's really obvious and I'm just having a stupid moment!

Nevermind, just looked it up. Yeah I hadn't heard of that. I've seen references to the Olympiad stuff on here but that's all.

MOP = Math Olympiad Summer Program, for the top scorers on the USAMO.

At one point it was called the Math Olympiad Program. Then some dufus tried to add an S, which is uncool because MOSP doesn't mean anything and MOSPers sounds even dumber. Everyone -- even the professors and administrators at MOP, except sometimes Dunbar -- calls it by its proper name, MOP. Why don't they just officially change it back? Who knows.

edit: Too late, oh well.

Thanks anyway :)

And goldenratiophi is one of the few URM MOPpers ever!

Okay, what if you’re an immigrant coming here from 9th grade.
even though you’re an Asian. Will you be considered the same with all other Asian AMericans? and you also live in porverty but don’t have dazzling EC but high test scores and rank. You just play tennis and go to the state ( never play a serious sport before though). Do you think this guy will make it into HYP? (It’s really not me though. I just imagine the situation)

Same here, what if you came from Asia at the end of elementary school speaking no English.

Lol, my father came from Nigeria speaking little english
he watched CNN and read books etc etc

He says this whenever he is at some interview or speaks to people
