HOOORAY for Forums! Hope Someone answers me

Hi !

I’m new (in forums in general). I’m thankful though that these communities exists.

So here goes, I’m a senior now and I was actually hoping to grab an internship abroad before I set off to college. I’m not entirely sure if that’s possible but I am eager. If not is there any other option I could possibly have an experience in the film industry before I set foot in college.

Thanks for the help guys!

Let me see if I understand your question:

You a high school senior who is thinking about going to college- but (per your other thread) you have no specific college in mind.

You hope to ‘grab an internship’ in the film industry in any country ‘abroad’ before you go to the college that you haven’t picked or applied to yet.

You have no experience in the film industry.

And you want to know if it is possible for a high school student to get an internship in a competitive industry, with no experience, in a country in which you have no connections?

I think you need to think this out again.

To get you started:
Have you researched film schools / programs at all? In the US / outside the US
Do you have any languages besides English?
What kind of experience do you have?
What do you know about film production?

I think you should start to think of things more maturely. No offense, but I think your thinking with just some whim of thoughts. Correct me if I’m wrong we want to understand first where you are coming from with your decisions. You might just be a little too excited about college don’t you think?

-I’ll start researching on them
-I’m quite fluent in Spanish, Japanese, and Korean because we have been looking in to studying abroad since we started high school(my siblings and I) so we told our parents we needed to study different languages in order to cope.
-Well, we have worked on a couple of short films for some electives; also I’m a part of our theater arts club in school.
I’m quite knowledgable in threater too.

@HumpyDumpy Thanks for that dude! I’ll admit I’m quite psyched up about college. Probably because I know what I want to study and what I want to be good at. They might just be whims but I know I want them to happen.

Knowing what you want is a good thing but you have to consider a lot of circumstances. Like, what @collegemom3717 is saying, but seeing your response I think you’re quite into it already.

Thing is I’m not quite certain now whether to apply for college here or try it in another country already.

Really fluent (can live your entire life in a foreign language) or “American fluent” (can order a beer)? This makes a difference.

If you already know a lot about film, surely you know the studios “abroad” (wherever you mean by that) you might like to apply to for an internship? You can probably find online forums like this relating to film, where you may find more help.

Depending on the country, it’s very likely you are going to need a work visa to do this. You’ll definitely need one if you want to be paid. Do you have citizenship of any other country? This might help get round the visa problem.

I strongly suspect that the vast majority of film internships available in the entire world are in the USA. The concept of internship is not even that well known in many countries. I think it would be far far easier and likely more beneficial to get an internship in the US, and use that experience, and the help of your US college, to obtain a study abroad place or internship (should they even exist in your preferred country ) in the future.

Good luck.

@cupcake

  • I think the latter

-you’re probably right. I’m just pretty curious on the various film industries all over the world which is why intend on taking on an internship in a foreign country or studying film abroad

I believe you’re not just simply curious, you’re quite ecstatic about everything college aren’t you?

I sure am! I’ll look forwar on learning new skills on film making and the likes of it.
