Does CAS defer very often? Also, does CAS regularly take deferrals?

In another thread, someone claimed that Cornell takes 1/3 of deferrals. However, I don't know if that statistic is applicable across the board of the colleges within Cornell.

"can any of you guys (preferably the ones who got accepted RD) tell me how important the mid year report is? I ask because my first semester senior grades dont come out until early february, and ILR (the school i got deferred from) releases its first rolling decisions in mid feb. I made a thread about this earlier, but i didn't get satisfactory answers so please help me out"

From what ive heard we defered ILR'ies wont find out till the last wave which is mid march (or so the deferal letter states). When I called the person wasnt really sure but thought that we probobly wouldnt go out with the first wave either. Looks like my pretty bad first quarter grades have to go in (1 A, 3 A-, 1 B-), then again there all AP or College courses so maybe they wont look to harshly upon them.

I'll get my decision 3/31 or 4/1... more time to be tortured, I guess.
Does anyone have statistics for deferred HumEc applicants and how they fare during regular decision?

Wow, thank you for this thread. It's exactly what I needed to see. I applied ED to hotel and CAS, got deferred. Though I really want to go to the hotel school, I'm not exactly the best candidate for the hotel school so I applied to CAS as well.

After I was deferred, I realized just how much I really wanted to go to Cornell(specifically hotel school). I'm working my butt off for Jan1 deadlines right now, but Cornell is still my number one. I was thinking about sending them a letter of how much I loved them and still wanted to get in, but was worried that I'd sound desperate. Looking at this thread, I guess that's not the case at all. Thanks guys!

Two things I'm worried about: one, mid year report. Lol my grades are in the dumps (or at least compared to cumulative gpa). This is not good at all, hahaha........ crap. And two, a lot of kids from my school who have very qualified profiles are applying RD for Cornell. I'm afraid I'll be competing with them in the admissions process for RD. If only I'd just gotten in through ED. Crap!

But anyway quick clarification question. So all ED applicants to the hotel school are automatically deferred, and not rejected? I've never read anything about this on the Cornell website but that's just what I've been generally reading on CC. Someone please explain, thanks.

QUOTE: ontario, could you please tell us of what you did and send to cornell that they decided to take you during RD? and are u now at cornell now?

Well, I was a CALS student. To be honest, I didn't really know what to do after the deferral letter. They had everything they needed, and I didn't think there was anything I could really do to persuade them in any way, so I left it up to their judgment during regular admissions.

Seriously though, get those other apps out to the other schools you have interest in. College apps aren't something you should gamble.

Well....I'm crossing my fingers for all of you! I hope that in (almost) 4 years you can be like me...and proudly hang your Cornell diploma on your wall...with your deferral/rejection letter on one side and your acceptance on the other ;-)

I'll be taking the letters down soon....since my coworkers are beginning to think I'm a tad odd :-D

Haha thanks dewdrop... though I had to work almost ten hours today, I managed to write my Why Yale, Why Duke, and Why Penn essays. It was oodles of fun. But hopefully all this effort will end up with good results (from Cornell, in particular :P)
I can't just dream about Cornell, unfortunately :(

LOL I'd like that acceptance letter on my wall!

Currently finishing my Cornell letter of interest... a little late?
I'll probably send it out tomorrow.
How are my fellow deferrees doing? I hope some of us get in RD!

My daughter sent her letter in last week. Good luck to you ChandlerBing, I'm rooting for you!

On a positive note she was excepted to U. of Miami today with a $16,000.00 per year merit scholarship. She is going into Marine Biology and they have a fantastic program. If she does not get into Cornell, that is where she will go.

I got deferred from the College of Human Ecology and I've been really devastated by it. Everyday I have see the two kids from my school who got in and it breaks my heart. I just want to know if I did everything right and my chances.

It looks to me as if you did everything right, Sakurarain, so don't blame yourself for anything. The admissions process is neither straightforward nor totally logical.

If you are really committed to going to Cornell, stay on the wait list and send any updating information you can. This year, with all the financial upheaval, the college might dig deep into its waiting list. If you are willing to start classes spring semester, that can also be a way in.

Good luck. I think you will do well wherever you land.
