is there anyone who got into mit that is a normal person? Someone that didnt get 800 in math and take calc bc in tenth grade and 5's on every ap exam theyve ever taken. Or is mit just as impossible to get into as everyone thinks?

I'm not actually at MIT yet, but I would assume that there are a fair of amount of so-called "normal ppl" meaning OMG they got below an 800 in math. I'm living proof that so-called "normal people" can get in.

I'm pretty sure not everyone has those "stats"....

As the admissions officers say almost daily, but I've taken the liberty of paraphrasing,"Who you are is more important than what you are."

(Sorry about the generic reply.)

Me!

I got a 690 in math, took calc as a senior, and, although I did get 5s on every AP I took, they were all humanities APs. And there were only three of them.

I worried way more in high school about boys and friend drama and extracurriculars than I did about getting into college.

I'm pretty "normal." Nothing spectacular on my application, besides the fact that I love math and science. I am just an average girl from a run-down neighborhood (although I did attend a very good high school). My suggestion is to just be yourself and never compare yourself with others. MIT looks at each applicant individually, so be sure to highlight what you have accomplished, rather than what you have not.

Nicelly said, tropicalisland.

:( according to the definition I am not a "normal person"
and I try so hard to fit in ;'-(

Argh, all these normal people I keep hearing about. I'm looking, but I can't find any!

All the normal people who got into MIT, please PM me. I am interested in learning more about what it's like to be normal.

I'm pretty normal! lol
4.17 GPA (Definately above average, but it was about 3rd to 4th in my class and it's not the huge 4.4 that most MIT applicants have)
2080 SAT (including a 720 on Math that was my highest score, with about 710 on CR and 680ish on writing)
Pretty crappy SAT IIs. I got a 700 on Math II, and I think I got a 630 and 620 on Chem and Bio, respectively xP I think it was because I took them at the beginning of the school year when my brain was still in summer mode XD

Beyond the numbers, I was in clubs, but I held no huge leadership positions (I think the biggest thing was CoCaptain of my water polo team for one year). Handful of clubs, played 3 sports in my 4 years of high school (at least 2 years each), but nothing outstanding. No awards, research, ridiculous honors, or anything.

Does that make me fairly normal?

I have high stats, but I never obsessed either way about them, and I'm going to continue to believe that makes me normal. I mean... the only money I ever spent on anything College Board related was on testing fees. No crazy prep courses or anything.
That definitely goes for me too... maybe it's an Ohio thing? ;)

i thought stats and being normal had no connection! =P but seriously, u'll find aplenty according to ur definition too. but then again, MIT has to look for a spark. ;P

kcastelle, im getting near 300... haha

It is definitely a possibility. At least the boy-craziness part. :D

oh yea

those aren't the only Ohio things either, there's also the talking online thing and using lots of exclamation points (lol!!! jk!!!)
