I am just curious, right now I'm at St. Johns University in Queens and my class schedule seems fair enough that I could easily achieve an A GPA. However, my classes aren't necessarily hard, there almost all intro classes for business. Will this hinder my chance of getting into NYU CAS as a transfer and even CUNY Baruch? I have legacy at NYU if that helps.

Thanks for any help guys, I really appreciate it

Taking business courses are useless. Unless you’re taking Stern’s prerequisites such as: Accounting I & II or macroeconomics (business courses) then you’re wasting your time with the other courses, as they are unlikely to transfer. Generally you take the prerequisites and other liberal courses and once you transfer you’ll start to take relevant course/major work.

For example. My counselor advised me to take Business Law I because I was majoring in business. I knew the chances would be marginal for such a course to transfer. You have to be careful on which classes you take or else you’ll just be wasting your time.

Oh, hey, I’m also a freshman at St. John’s looking to transfer to NYU. St. John’s isn’t exactly what I was looking for in a college, and also disappointed that they don’t accept many of my AP credits.

Poleandreel, how hard was it to transfer? I’m wondering if things might be different for me since I’m a science major taking general chem, general bio, etc…

I’m an NYU transfer who is graduating in 2011.

Please take more liberal arts classes and less ‘intro to business’ classes. There are a TON of core liberal arts requirements in CAS, and if you don’t start fulfilling them now, you won’t graduate in 4 years. Also, those intro classes might not even count towards a CAS major. Look at the NYU transfer website and the suggested pre-reqs very carefully. Most successful NYU transfers had at least a 3.3 at their old college. Some majors are more competitive than others and CAS does pay attention to what your intended major is. Good luck!

Take more liberal arts courses. if you dont plan on staying at st johns for 4 years then get rid of the into to business courses.

i transferred while at stj last year and let me tell you, its a long tedious process.

you have to ask for recs from professors and hound them for them.

you have to get specific papers filled out from the people in charge of judicial records. and stj has alot of ppl that transfer to cunys bc they are cheaper so the school itself hates filling out those transfer papers.

also, it is extremely difficult to do your work for school and the essays for the colleges that you are also applying to. i applied to 6 so it was alot. i managed to keep a 3.97 gpa though in the 2 semesters i was there so its def possible.

Just before you get into the whole transfer process, think about it long and hard. Also it is expensive. all the app fee’s and mailing fees.

Lastly, i am not trying to discourage anyone from applying. i just know of plenty of people who went through this whole proces and were severely dissapointed in the end.

and…NYU’s financial aid is terrible. so unless you can afford to pay 30k a year out of pocket or through loans, dont bother applying. there are plenty of other schools out there

ahh damn, I have to change my whole schedule, its worth it, i hate st johns, thanks for all your help guys. Also can anyone help me find the pre-req stuff on the NYU website? cant seem to find it.
