Hopeful Transfer - No answer since Jan? Advice?

Hello everyone.

I just got my AA from a SWFL Community College. I applied on January to transfer on Fall 2013. I have not received any response at all.

Some stats about me:

-Female
-First generation Latina and first generation to go to college.
-Multilingual
-I actually got both an AS and AA and my GPA was 3.7
-I am going for Criminology
-I do not know if my SATs scores count anymore, but I submitted them anyway as well.
-My High school rank if it still matters was 3.

When I go into my status check, they have received all of my transcripts. I did graduate, but what worries me most is that I haven't received ANY response. Most of my friends have received some response.

I've e-mailed, and called to make sure I am not missing anything. I called last week and was told it was on a "decision" process. I was told this when I called last month too.

I am sorry if I sound too desperate. Is this a normal wait time for any answer?

I am new to the whole college world, and I guide myself with Google, and other college -bound friends. If you can please give me any advice, or if I should do something further, please let me know.

I appreciate any answer!

Just curious, did you get you AA/AS before you applied, or did you just finish the degree at the end of Spring semester?

That timeframe is pretty long for a transfer- generally it should take about 8-10, maybe 12 weeks tops. It could be however that the department was waiting for your degree to post before accepting you.

Hmm, my AA didn’t post and I was accepted for Summer '12. Accepted 2 months before I finished my Spring '12 classes at HCC.
I even started my summer classes here before they even got my final HCC transcript that had my AA posted.

So it is kind of weird that there is no response yet.

Hello! Thanks for your responses.

Yes, I got my degree this Spring '13. I heard that I could be accepted pending AA, or that if I was to be denied I would have heard about it already. I just do not know what to think.

Anyone has a recommendation? I have a chance to to to Tallahassee this week, so I am planning to go in person to FSU. Any advice on how I should go about this?

Thank you!

Did you setup a tour or are you just going to wander around yourself? If you want a guided tour you have to schedule it in advanced. Either way, I wouldn’t put off your visit. I’m sure you’re in if you have an AA and a 3.7 GPA. Criminology is not a limited access major as far as I know.

I would keep checking with the admissions office. There may be an error in your application and they haven’t caught it yet. I had a similar problem when I applied to grad school at another university (not FSU). They kept telling me my application was complete and under review. Then one day they realized there was in fact a mistake on their end, which was preventing any progress. You’ll be fine though, FSU can easily accommodate you in the event of a mixup.

Yeah I would schedule a tour bc it can be overwhelming at first on campus. Then you can explore the other parts of campus they pretend don’t exist during tours lol.
It will be easier to talk in person just explain exactly what you stated here and just want to know if there is something delaying a decision.

Yeah, if you haven’t heard something back by now, I would get into contact with both FSU Admissions and the department that houses your intended major, and ask them if your application is missing anything and that you are concerned that it’s taking this long to hear back.

If your application was complete, you should have heard something back by now. The only exception would be if the department that houses your intended major was waiting for your AA/AS degree to post to your profile before accepting you.
