Hopeful Transfer

I applied ED to Smith College and will most likely be playing a sport there.

Assuming that I will be accepted, I hope to eventually transfer to an Ivy League; I was on track for Ivy before, but because of impending family issues, my grades suffered.

Unweighted I have about a 3.6/3.7
I will have taken AP: English, Biology, Human Geography, Statistics, and Economics. I received a 4 on my Bio test, although science/math is not my strong suit.
Smith was SAT optional, so my SAT's are not stand-out.

I have read that the selectivit of Ivy is somewhat elitist, so I'm hoping that by starting at a top liberal arts college it wil help my chances down the road.

What should I do in the next two years to prepare myself for a transfer? What Ivy's are open to transfer students?

All ivies except Princeton accept some transfers. I’d recommend retaking the SAT if it’s not at least median for most top colleges, about 2200. It’s still important for transfers. But give Smith a try, you may like it and you’ll certainly get a good education.

Does Harvard accept transfers? I didn’t think so, but I could be mistaken.

If you’re going to be playing a sport for Smith, why transfer?

Harvard accepted 12 transfers this year.

Okay, thank you! You’re right, Smith provides a very good education.

12 is a very small number- does that mean the acceptance pool is more competitive?

2college2college: I would of course love to play a sport but school is top priority; I feel as though transferring will help me get into a top 20 law school which is my ultimate goal.

These schools all take very few simply because not many leave.

I think Smith will be equally good for a top law school. All the top grad schools want diversity in their classes. It will be easier to stand out at Smith.

that’s a very good point, it didn’t even occur to me.

does anyone recomment anything in particular that would help me stand out during my undergrad studies for law school?

There are plenty of good reasons to transfer out of Smith, but that’s not one of them. Whatever happens, I hope it works out for the best.

thank you; i got my acceptance notice today!!

what would be “a good reason” to transfer, if any?

The school isn’t the right fit for you, it doesn’t offer the course of study you want to take, etc. Your GPA and LSAT matter for law school, not what school you went to.
