i have a friend that applied to swarthmore rd. her gpa unweighted is somehting close to 3.0 maybe 3.1 and weighted its like 3.6. her sat score was 1800 and 1250/1600.
but she has an amazing why swarthmore essay and great ec's with great leadership. she is really involved with jewish life. president of jewish club at school, and president of her usy youth group. she also speaks 3 languages.

I was rejected outright ED, with 3.9 UW GPA and 1480/1600 SATs. Plus ECs (not spectacular, but volunteering, leadership, theater, teaching relating things, etc.) and good essays. I'm not bragging (I still wasn't good enough for Swat!), just putting some things in perspective.

I mean, miracles DO happen, but I would recommend that she doesn't fall head-over-heals with Swat. I did. It stank.

Plus, 3.1 UW GPA means a lot of lower grades, depending on the difficulty of the grading system of the high school. Swat is a bajillion times harder than high school, so maybe she should consider that she'd be really stressed and unhappy at Swat. Valedictorians and top students with top SAT scores struggle there. I have a feeling that I would have formed a crazy twitch in my left eye (from stress) if I went to Swat- and I've done pretty well in high school.

Err, Swat really isn't always as stressful as people seem to make it out to be...and some schools do grade really harshly in high school. :] Anyway, Swat rejects some outstanding applicants (lots, actually) and accepts people who you might not expect, so there are few applicants who can be rated as a definite yes or no. Stats alone can never predict a result, and even in context it's hard to say. There's no point to a chances idea if your friend has already applied...there's nothing she can do now, so she'll hear in April and that'll be that.

yeah, hate to be a downer, but like everyone above no. schools may say stats don't count, but their lieing, and even if they don't you need a borderline of at least 1400 unless you have some amazing thing like you advised the president on how to cure aids or something. yeah, sry
