hey guys i got rejected from cornell early and i’m now looking at brown as my top choice. i think i am a decent applicant but definitely not the strongest…but i feel so hopeless right now not necessarily because cornell rejected me but because i don’t think i can get into brown or anywhere else. i didn’t apply to any safety schools (state schools) because there were none that i liked and i figured i might as well spend time and effort on reaches and realistic schools that i would actually want to attend. i really hope brown takes me during the regular decision round, i just feel so desperate and hopeless right now though.

this is a pointless post. but if anyone wants to vent about their worries about getting into brown, feel free to do so, i think i need some people to relate with.

Find some safety and match schools that you love and apply to them.
Hope you win the lottery but make an alternate plan if you lose.

I know it’s really hard not to take the college application process personally, but try to step back and realize that it’s a numbers game and the colleges, not the applicants, have all the advantages. No matter how wonderful your application, you could get rejected (have you seen all the wonderful kids who got denied or rejected for ED at the top schools?).

There are many talented, bright kids who have very successful college experiences after getting denied at all their top choices. You don’t need to go to an Ivy to be happy or successful in life. There are so many other great schools out there who would love to have you. You CAN get into a good school, you just have to change your definition of a good school.

If you don’t like your state schools, then find private schools that you like that are safety schools for you. If you can’t think of any, then use the forums here for help coming up with suggestions (the parents forum can be very helpful for this).

keep your head up! as for applying to Brown RD, spend a lot of time writing thoughtful responses for the supplement questions! That’s really the only thing you can control now given your grades/other stats are mainly set. A stellar supplement is very important and it can certainly improve your chances :)

hm. as for safety schools, I’m thinking of Case Western, Northeastern and Holy Cross. I don’t know what major you’re interested in/what you like in a school but those are just some ideas. good luck!!
