Theres a girl at my school who has always dreamed of going to Columbia. She has worked so hard, has a 4.0 and a 25 on her ACT. In December (2007) she was diagnosed with leukemia. She only has about 2 years at the most to live.......:(

Regardless, she still continues with her studies and acts like she's a normal kid!

The guidance counselor used to be a professor at Columbia and said he would explain to the head of admissions the situation and that she would be very grateful to be accepted to Columbia in the fall.

She was in treatment and didn't submit her application on time. The guidance counselor said he will work with the college to see if they would accept her. Do you think Columbia would do this????

She is so inspiring, and it would break her heart not to be accepted to Columbia. She's one of my best friends...and I want whats best for her.

oh, of course not....she's a tough kid and wouldn't need any help with her illness from those at Columbia.....she has family in New York who would get her to doctor appointments and such

Hmmm...
I honestly find the story incredibly profound. It's really inspiring that attending Columbia is what this girl wants to do under these circumstances. My only concern is that her 25 ACT doesn't exactly show a huge level of academic prowess. My heart goes out to her, her family, and her friends, but I'd worry that maybe the academic load of Ivy League school might make the last few years of her life unduly stressful.

Regardless, I wish her the best of luck and commend you for being such a great friend.
