Hoping to go to UCLA

I'm from UK and I have just left secondary school and I'll be going to college for 2 years to study. My friend in Cyprus also has 2 years left at school and we are hoping to go to UCLA. I was wondering is it hard to get in? And what's the general university life like? We are hoping to study theatre/film/television does anybody know what it's like or can give us any information?

Thanks

Without more information, it is impossible to gauge your situation. All the UC's are hard to get into, especially Berkeley and UCLA, and even more so for international students.

And to add even more to the difficulty, it is nearly impossible to transfer out of a 4 year university to UCLA. Of course, I'm assuming that your secondary school happens to be the aforementioned. The UC's give priority to students who graduate from a 2 year college.

So to put it bluntly, unless if you're a genius, you won't get accepted.

University life at all the UC's tend to be only for the person who does NOT like individual attention, and perfers to learn at a very large school.

For a second there I though cherrypie was from the University of Kentucky then he mentioned Cyprus. Well the life in California in general is really good imo. University life is awesome! There is always something going on in westwood whether its a free concert on campus, a movie premiere, a distinguished guest speaker, sporting events from basketball to football rallies. Honestly Southern California revolves around UCLA and USC their is no better rivalry in southern cali and both schools always have something going on in the city. As far as getting in I don't believe its that hard as long as you have all the requirements completed and have a special experience and or talent that will set you apart from the pack. Last what better place to study film/television than Los Angeles? Either UCLA or USC will give you a solid foundation and more importantly the connections you will make with the people who will get you in the movie business. Good luck.

It is just a two year college. I read somewhere that to get in I need 5 GCSE's (which I am finishing now) and 3 A levels, which I will be starting in September and they will last for 2 years. Here, going to college for 2years after secondary school, is like completing high school in US.

wait, cherrypie and his/her friend is planning to study theatre or film/television.

i'm not sure if this is the same for film/television, but for theatre, you have to go through an audition. the audition is what they will most likely base your admissions decision on, with academics being somewhat secondary. so before we tell them how difficult it is to get into UCLA academically, we have to consider that they are a different case in that they're applying to the school of theatre, film and television. but with that said, it is also very competitive to get into the school since UCLA has one of the best theatre and film/television schools in the world.

From what I've noticed---because of it's worldwide reputation, the Theater dept has quite a lot of students that are from outside of California in comparison to other majors.

About the film thing. I have a friend who ended up deciding not to go to UCLA and went to SC instead even though the film dept is especially respectable at LA. The reason he did this was becuase at UCLA, you can't get into the Film major till your third year. It's a 2 year program. So even if you initially get into UCLA your first year of college, you'll have to go through an application process again for the Film school Jr. year--and until then, you have to take other courses of study.

However, this isn't that big a deal unless you absolutely want to focus purely on film stuff ALL four years.
