Hopkins, Northwestern, or Michigan

These are my options. Planning to do pre-med stream

Michigan Honors for 16k
Northwestern for 38k
John Hopkins for 41k

I may not be able to afford NU and JHU easily without going into debt. Leaning towards Michigan at the moment. But, difficult to pass up JHU and NU. Any opinions??

I'd go with Michigan considering the cost difference. Michigan is a very good school.

I gotta be honest with you. You'd be crazy not to do Michigan Honors. You are talking about $80K difference. That is a huge amount of money. If your family isn't wealthy, it just doesn't add up.

U Mich...no question.

Go to Johns Hopkins for pre-med. It is an absolute beast in any bio-related fields. And you will have more research opportunities at JHU. Dont believe the hype that JHU is too cutthroat.

iamathriver, you do realize that the OP would have to spend an extra $100k to attend JHU. Most of that $100k would be in the form of a loan. Do you really advise a student interested in pursuing medical school to get into massive debts?

Granted that JHU is a "beast" in any Bio-related field. But Michigan isn't exactly chopped liver. It has top 15 departments in all Bio-related fields and also offers a great deal of research opportunities from day one.

AMD, academically, all three universities are peers. They are equal in terms of academic quality and reputation. All three universities offer a great undergraduate experience and plenty of research opportunities. However, since Michigan will cost you $80-100k less to attend, this is really a no-brainer.

Thank you all for your comments and advice. Yes, last night I made the decision to attend UMich. Thank you again.

@ AMD

You made the right decision. Although I am a Northwestern grad, you will save a lot of money for medical school and have an excellent experience at Michigan. The Honors program is truly something to be proud of and will prepare you well for medical school admissions academically and financially.
